We have a Villa Buddy Seat in the passenger position. During our most recent adventure, the up/down motor for the back of the seat began failing. Sometimes it would operate and sometimes not.
While parked at home with everything very quiet, I began inspected the issue. The problem appears to be with the motor. When I activate the control switch, the motor responds ... RRRRRRR-RRR-RR-R-r-ugh. Then I get just a click when the switch is actuated. If I wait a few minutes, the motor will again run for a few seconds, then slow to a halt.
All of the other motors work fine. The joystick that will raise front and back together provokes a similar response. The motor for front elevation will operate through the full range of motion. The motor for the rear starts running, then fails.
Have you suggestions for repair or replacement? What is the easiest way to get at the motor? It looks like I can pull the seat of the pedestal that is bolted to the floor. It there likely to be a source for a replacement motor?
I have Flexsteel chairs and just the last couple days took them off to refoam the driver and totally clean the 2 then polish. Look like new now-anyway to answer your question take it off and leave the base and motors in place and you can work on them easily.Four bolts with 1/2" heads to take out. Sounds like a drive is not right??

You might try David Flanagan at FOT - a number of Villa seats have been pulled out for new in recent years and the motors may be the same. Some were destined for deer stands where I doubt they have 12V (although you never know, those Foretravel employees are pretty ingenious) to operate the motors :D

It sounds like the nylon gears are failing/failed. The ninety degree junction of the threaded drive rod is where the gears reside. I had a similar failure in the fore and aft seat movement. Replaceing the threaded drive rod assembly which included the nylon gears solved the problem.
That description fits the symptoms. The replacement for the threaded drive rod assembly came from where?
Call Mike Rimirez at Villa, He said he can help you with it.
He sold me & Phil Bostrom our great Knoedler air ride seats.
Great guy to work with.

Thank you, Barry. That's great contact information.
I talked to Mike Rimirez at Villa International. I also checked some other places. I ordered a new RV-620 power seat base from Villa International. I successfully installed it yesterday. Mechanical installation involved removed and replacing four bolt/nut combinations and four nuts. Electrical installation included getting the polarity right on the primary connection, then reversing the wires to one motor in order to get all control switches to operate as expected. There was also one circlip to remove/replace in order to remove/attach the cable for the rotation release.
The old unit is available in case anyone wants to scavenge parts. Everything works except for the rear elevation motor. I'll keep it for a little while, then it will likely go to a recycle heap.
I have attached a reference picture of the old unit. The new unit looks pretty much the same.
Does anyone know where to get one of those circlips? I need one for the driver's seat...
J.D.,
