Title: Cabinet top extension for more area
Post by: Michael & Jackie on January 09, 2012, 06:34:22 pm
The area behind our passenger chair in a 2001 U320 had a large storage cabinet.  You may  be interested in this modification.  At MOT, David and Seth Whitehead reduced the width of the custom oversized cabinet to provide more room for the recliner and added a walnut extension top.  We can pull the top out toward the center of the coach, making a desk by the recliner.  You could probably do this yourself if you have the right tools.  It will have a glass inlaid top and there will be a "leaf"  between the wall and the top when it is extended. I hope the pictures help explain the project.  There may be better alternatives but this might give you one idea as a means to add desktop space.  There is still work to do, such as place the doors back on, add the glass and make the "leaves".  Mike

This is a great idea!  I've been trying to think how to extend my top as well so I could place a laptop on it. Thanks!
