Title: Emergency Sealing Tape, Cap with LEDs
Post by: Michael & Jackie on January 18, 2012, 01:06:27 am
My son-in-law works for a supplier of various industrial materials.  I asked if there is something better than duct tape.  He said very much, check out 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N that it is used for RV roof repairs.  I found this web site should you be interested:  3M Extreme Sealing Tape - 3M US (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3M-Industrial/Adhesives/Promotions-New-Products/Extreme-Sealing-Tape/)  Maybe carry a small roll to use in an emergency for a cracked sky light or roof while on a trip.  I also got a baseball cap with five LED bulbs in the brim.  Provides good light.  It seems ideal if I had, heavens forbid, to work on something at night around the coach.  Mike

Those LED headband lights are fantastic for working around the coach.  The brighter, the better!!!  But I don't have on with the LEDs in the hat brim.

Pat, probably get at Lowe's, a sporting goods store, or Wal-Mart.  These are very popular with hunters and fishermen.  Those may only have three lights and that may be enough for about anything.  You could order from outfit below and I have given below a picture, the lights are along and under the brim.  You can power up three, two or all five lights, battery to last 30 hours and is replaceable.  If you do not find less expensive places to order, then try this industrial supply site.  In any case, really better for me than trying to hold a flashlight and work.  I am getting some for RV friends.  ERGODYNE 8940 CAMO, distributed by R.S. Hughes - Industrial Distributor - Tapes, (http://www.rshughes.com/products/720476_23274.html)  Happy Trails, Mike

I'm interested in the tape and called 3m... They only offer it by the case and I don't want that much of it... Any idea of a vendor where we can buy a lesser amt?

Try Amazon... but it's not cheap: Amazon.com: 3m extreme sealing tape (http://www.amazon.com/3M-Extreme-Pressure-Sensitve-Adhesive/dp/B004V3S3ME/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326946291&sr=8-2)

Crap... right about not cheap..... $113.00 for 1 roll... I think I will pass at this point. They should send a cap... coat and pants for that price.

There are cheaper routes, sorry I am late getting back to this.    You can order a roll of 1 inch x 18 yds of the 3M product 4412N for $40 plus shipping from rshughes.com (877-774-8443).  This is reported to be a remarkable tape, it somewhat flows into the crack, can be used as permanent, I am told but I have not tried.  It can be applied as overlapping so you can make it wider than 1 inch, it flows together to bond.  It is said very useful for seams, such as around air conditioning ducts, used on RVs to assure a seal when other things in the past have not.  There is also another tape from Hughes, 3M 8979, that is less expensive and is also UV rated but it is intended more for temporary repairs.  3M reportedly will not sell smaller rolls as samples to avoid people reselling them.  Perhaps though the $40 plus shipping would work, maybe you can share a roll (I do not know if you can strip some off, give to a friend).  Hope this helps get you what you want.  Mike

Thanks Mike... I don't doubt it is probably an outstanding product....  I definately have some uses for such a product around the ponderosa.

When in NM last year, a friend had a problem that if I had had some of that tape, it would have solved things for a month until got home.  I think I will just get the 1 inch roll and carry to have in case someone needs some in a park with an emergency.  Seems always someone in need of help, from tv to water line, furnace not working.  Mike
