Title: Motor Homes of Texas
Post by: Jerry & Coleen on February 04, 2012, 08:53:51 am
A report on MOT in Nacogdoches.  Took our coach to MOT January 16th.  Shore Power connection in the bay was busted.  Old satellite dish on the roof was leaking.  Skylight was leaking.  7 pin hitch needed a 3/2 convertor so the brake lights/signal lights would work on the toad.  Needed a charge circuit to the toad battery to prevent the Roadmaster Even Brake from running it down.  Nagging engine problem that a company in Phoenix couldn't fix.  Left the coach there for two weeks.  MOT said the engine problem was a Caterpillar issue.  Fixed the rest.  When I went to get the coach yesterday they jumped on the toad and finished the wiring.  I was disappointed they didn't solve the engine issue.  But on the other hand they didn't try to repair something that was above their capability.  Very pleased with the work.  They even had a sewer connection I needed.

You will find that neither MOT or FOT will work on engine issues if they are purely engine related. They have a warranty on the new ones and you go to Cummins now.  I have been told at MOT to have cummins look at something as they are the ones equipped to do it. They thought my old sending unit was leaking and it was but not much and cummins put it on a dyne and ran it with dye in it and saw it was minor and needed to be snugged up.

It's probably best to have a certified Cummins, Caterpillar, or Allison shop look at those systems if it's not a basic fluid change, anyway.

Jerry, if you haven't already joined, check out CAT RV Club (http://www.catrvclub.org) .  They are an FMCA chapter with excellent technical resources (like Brett Wolfe  ;) ).  Their forum is open to non-club members as well and they can probably direct you to a good service option.  CAT RV Club, an FMCA Chapter (http://www.catrvclub.org/forum/)

Bill, I did a google, found this

Diesel Talk Forums - Detroit (http://dieselenginetrader.com/diesel_talk/categories.cfm?catid=9)

or

Don Hayward's Detroit Diesel 2 Stroke Engine Forum - A Bravenet.com Forum (http://pub40.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.php?usernum=3407651264&frmid=150&msgid=0)

Looks close to a forum, would be a good start I guess.
Good luck
