My 95 U320 M11 has a Amsoil Duel Guard Bypass oil filtration system installed. It was installed by the previous owner.
I would normally not look favorably on any oil system modifications to a stock engine.
I have read positive reports on the Amsoil system and would be inclined to keep it, but I thought I would check with the brain trust here for there advice.
There is also a K&M air filtration system. This system will get a trip to the garbage can! Just want to know if the Amsoil oil system should join it.

bypass oil systems are one of the finest gifts you can give your engine. Amsoil's is a very good design that they have continually improved over the years. If you test your oil before changing it you will find you will extend your oil life substantially. If you decide to chuck it, please do so in my direction...

I would definitely keep the Dual Guard Bypass oil filtration system. I have been an Amsoil dealer since 1982 and have had extensive experience with bypass systems. You have the potential to save a sizeable sum of money on oil changes provided a regularly scheduled sample is tested. I have not changed my synthetic oil in 2-1/2 years and will not until testing deems the oil is no longer suitable for continued service. If you want additional details I can be reached @786-239-4781.

Dave; I seems there are a number of versions of Amsoil's Dual Guard bypass oil filtration systems. Which are you using on your M-11?
The Amsoil Duel Guard Bypass oil filtration system is very good no matter what kind of oil you run. But I think you were wise on the K&N.
How does the Amsoil system compare with the Cummins' Sentinel system? Cost-wise, etc.

I am always amazed at the Amsoil crowd. I am sure the product is very good. My question is, why would one change to such an expensive procedure ? when using the proper normal oil such as the Rotella T 15W-40 & others, does such a good job of providing a million miles on an engine. I just do not see the big advantage of the Amsoil nor the synthetic oils. Thinner oils give better MPG, The same with the current bypass lube filtering systems provided by Cummins in this case. Yes I am old school, but it works fine. Seems to me it is more of a new gimmick and "I gotta have that too" in order to be up to date. Or smooth sales pushes it on you. Like the K&N Filter junk. Beats me.

Got to agree with Dave on this one. Rotella will provide excellent service on 4 cycles and Delo 100 SAE 40 is the only way to go for a Detroit 2 cycle. They will go a million with proper care. I use Rotella/Delo 400 in my 300SD diesel and it has 440K hard miles (petal to metal with a big trailer behind for several days at a time on a couple of trips across the US) without any work on the engine (or transmission). The paint is shot but it still starts instantly in sub-freezing weather.
Having said that, I use synthetic on my RAV4 and 2 cycle bikes, chainsaws, etc. My 1978 Suzuki PE250 has gone Barstow to Vegas twice and still has not had the cylinder head off. All this with a 110 to 1 mix of synthetic 2 cycle oil. Some of the bike racers go as high as 140 to 1. NASCAR uses synthetic oils. You should see the qualifying oil that goes in for a few laps. Pours like thin water. In extreme conditions like racing, I believe synthetics do provide better protection against metal to metal contact at those ultra high temps. Most racing failures are due to overstressed components not lack of lubrication. Hey, 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and a filter for 7500 miles is not going to break the bank for anyone.
With a fleet oil like Rotella/Delo 100, I can't see a reason for spending a fortune to change oil when you are talking gallons, not quarts. Considering all the dirt in the air with a rear engine RV and sulphur in the fuel, I like to change oil on a regular basis. A bypass oil filter is excellent protection against the small particulates that can cause wear but K&N air filters go in the trash.

I am also an Amsoil believer and a dealer too.(this brings the price down to pretty much even) and do not forget that all the jet engines in aircraft use synthetic oils and this was the birth of the oil for vehicles(started by the Amsoil founder against great odds in the oil industry), then all the others followed when they realised it really was good for an engine!!!
I also have the Bypass system as was installed by previous owner and all my oils in coach are Amsoil. I have read a great deal about the qualities of it esp' in racing and so far find no reason to go back to standard oils just to save a couple dollars.
It sort of is like the retarder issue--"once you change over a light goes on in your head".
personally I do not care if an individual does not believe what we now know, but I will not change back from it.

I wouldn't necessarily run Amsoil in my M-11, but I wouldn't mind having a bypass oil filtration system. As I recall the cost for one forum member that installed the Cummins Sentinel system system was in the neighborhood of 1800.00! I'm certain the Amsoil system would be a 'tad' cheaper.
Fact is a bypass filter will filter to around 1 micron while a full flow will filter to 10. They work and there's tons of fleet documentation that will show it to you, whether its Amsoil, Parker or any other manufacturer.
Synthetic oils work best operating at the extremes of service. With 40 below zero pour points and thermal breakdown 150+ degrees above conventional oils they are a better product.
I was an Amsoil dealer in the late 70s. It was cost effective to become one because the discount exceeded the cost of becoming a dealer... I just don't like multi level marketing so I didn't stick.
I do not like multi level marketing also so only sell to friends that want it and one of our local Detroit Deisel outfits employees buy it from me to save them some cash. I did it for my saving mainly.

Next oil change I will use synthetic oil as I believe the previous owner did.
I have always run synthetic oil in my engines. Mostly because here in Chicago I want the oil to flow better when it gets cold out, or just to get going in a cold engine regardless the time of year.
Any suggestions on a filter replacement source?
Do I need Amsoil filters at both locations(bypass and normal filter)?
