Title: Travel Sat 1000
Post by: wa_desert_rat on February 06, 2012, 12:53:28 pm
When we bought our U225 it had a satellite antenna system installed but not, apparently, working. The previous owner told us that he used a "carry out" satellite system (which he kept). We aren't all that worried about satellite television right now because the RV is more of an escape. We can watch movies, read books, ride bikes, go fishing, paddle kayaks, etc. But I'm curious whether this thing will work if we pack out DirecTV receiver up and move it into the coach and hook it up.

I don't know if it has an LNB or not... I could go up and look... but that ladder is scary. Not much on the Internet except that apparently the UK and Australia use them a lot more than we do.

Have not managed to find a manual in the paperwork, either.

Anyone have any experience with these?

Craig, Why ot try it, hook up your receiver and see what you get, might need some info on the antenna system to find the correct satellite, but give it a try, it will not take long to figure out if or not works.
Nothing like playing with new toys.

That's the next step I guess... I was just hoping someone knew whether it's compatible with the newere sat tv systems. May have to wait 'til the DW is home from work - and daylight - to see if the antenna is responding correctly.

Craig,

Here is a video showing how to set up your 1000 as well as info for Dish or Direct TV: SK-1000 TRAVELER RV Dish Network TRIPLE LNB SATELLITE TV ANTENNA (http://sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Winegard/sk-1000-TRAVELER-Dish-Network-TRIPLE-LNB-SATELLITE-TV-ANTENNA.htm)  Lots of youtube videos online from Sadoun for different satellite products.

Should work for Direct TV also. LNBs are cheap new on Craigslist if it does not have one, if wrong LNB or if bad. Did he say which service he had?

Should be one button automatic activation but if you have to aim the dish, there is a good German app for the iPhone that has every com satellite in the world on it. Works with the internal GPS and the camera so you can see if there is a tree or building in the way. Makes setup a snap. Best I have seen and only $1.99 . Even with the automatic roof dish, it works great to show if trees in the way in a campground. See it at: App Store - SatFinder (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/satfinder/id397993104?mt=8)

211K Dish Network receiver works well and gets Sat 129 easily for HDTV here on the west coast. About $110 off ebay.

Thanks Pierce! Very useful information. Gives me a good place to start... and looks like I might be able to take my receiver on vacations now and then. :P
