This is a heads up for owners of 3116 Cat engines. Our hydraulic pump began to leak. We took the coach to MOT. They said take it to Cat. I did as they suggested. Cat dealer in Waco sent the pump to a local rebuild shop. They couldn't get parts or made little effort to do so. Very sharp service manager called Foretravel with the serial number of the pump. Mike at Foretravel informed him there were three seal kits for my pump (installed by Foretravel) in the country. I bought two. One as a spare. This means there is one left in the country. Otherwise one would have to replace the pump. Foretravel does not stock this particular pump.
If you are using this pump you might want to purchase the last seal from Foretravel.
Jerry,
Is this the kit for the power steering hydraulic pump or the hydraulic pump for the fan motor. If fan motor, what make/model pump does it fit. There have been several different pumps used over the years, both as OE and as replacements.

I don't know Brett. I will find out. I was told by MOT it was the power sterring. But I don't know which one was changed. Invoice from Holt says hydraulic pump. I didn't know there were two.
Jerry,
Both PS and fan pumps are hydraulic.
The PS pump is on the front (front of coach) of the air compressor.
The pump for the fan is easily seen from the back-- it is driven by the short serpentine belt and is on the passenger's side of the engine.

I checked and it was the fan pump. The spare seal kit I have is SKU 1075658. Description 5000101 W9A2 Haldex Barnes.
Must be the same fan pump on the C8.3. I had to supply the seal kit to my local repair shop when they rebuilt my pump. I have two spare seal kits in my coach.
I had the seal replaced in my Hydraulic fan pump by a local hydraulic repair shop. He did it in frame and charged about 100 bucks, he ordered the seal and had it the next day.

Brings back memories of being stranded in Tallahassee at a CAT dealer. Thank God for Brett who told me to call FOT ASAP which salvaged our vacation. CAT was looking for a replacement pump not knowing it wasn't going to happen. FOT shipped the replacement fan pump along with the external bypass valve (as the retired unit had a built in pressure relief set-up) along with instructions for the tech to install it all. Curious if you know what type of fluid was in your unit. Mine had ATF and everyone else says they have or had oil. I think that some or all of the predecessor CAT engines (3208?) used ATF but the 3116's had oil and perhaps mine is a very early 3116. They said to keep it ATF and I've had no problems. Immediately had an alternator fail thereafter where Brett and Gary were both very helpful. This forum got me through that trip. Thankfully the rest of the way to Las Vegas & Grand Canyon were uneventful and made it back to FL with only a wounded checkbook.
