It's a bit early to start a sticky topic for this year's Grandvention, but I just wanted to mention that Steve and I are planning to attend. We gave Beverly our deposit on Monday.
Michelle
Little early for us to plan that far out, but could be a doable (is that a word?) All depends where we spend the winter. California, Arizona, Texas or Florida are in the running. Will give Beverly a call. Do enjoy the time spent at the Grand Conventions and people we meet.
YEAH!!! But before I make plans... what's a Grandvention?
I'm a newbie...
A grandvention is a gathering of Motorcade members at a large rally put on by the club and Corp. They have new coaches there, management and seminars as well as crafts and places to visit and things to do. Wonderful gathering where you can renew old friendships and make new ones.
Since Jane was ELECTED VP of the SC Chapter we are obligated to attend. That is if nothing happens before then that I have no control over.
Gary B
John S Excellent description of a Grandvention.
Thanks
As a member of the forum and the 2012 International president of the Foretravel Motorcade club we would encourage all of you to attend the Grandvention it is a great time to meet old friends and make new ones. They also do a great job of presenting all of the upcoming trips they have planned. If you don't like to plan your own trips it is a great way to see the country and not have to do the planning.

We plan to go to the Granvention and will be signing up later as we confirm that we will be there. Never been to one so this will be a new experience. Mineola is not much of a town but I assume they will make it interesting and it will be great to meet members. DAN
The Grandvention at the Dallas Speedway in 2007 was our first Foretravel event on any kind. In fact, it was the first time we met anyone with a Foretravel and may have been the first time we even saw another Foretravel.
We had a super great time and have been to each one thereafter with the exception of 2008 due to health issues.
Hope to see ya'll in Mineola.
I was talking with Beverly about the GV and she sent me some information to share. This will be going out in the Motorcader Mag on Monday.
We will be having two entertainers and they both have a website.
"Shake, Rattle & Roll" Shake Rattle & Roll ยป America's Sweethearts (http://www.shakerattleroll4.com/) and
The Chuck Wagon Cook and Entertainment that we'll have out at the Nature Preserve "Camp Cookie" Camp Cookieville- Camp Cookie Productions (http://www.campcookieville.com/)
and the Nature Preserve Mineola Nature Preserve on the Sabine River (http://mineolanaturepreserve.com/)
and our campground, Mineola Civic Center Mineola Civic Center and RV Park (http://mineolaciviccenterandrvpark.com/)
The city has gone out of their way to accommodate us. I am sure everyone will have a good time.
I will update when I get more information.
They both look like great fun!
Super frosting for a super event.
Well it is that time of year again, time to plan to attend the Grandvention. I have gone to a number of them and have learned something at each one and have had a great time. The other benefit is that we get to meet our fellow forum members. I know when we had a grandvention in Columbus, IN we all put Yahoo Forum in our windows and it was great to meet and put a face with the persons you have talked to online for years. Think of it as the wonderful time we all have in the FT parking lot after service without the 1000 dollar a day cost to be there.....
Here is a link to Foretravels Page that shows some info
Foretravel Conversions : Upcoming Events (http://www.foretravel.com/inc/motorcade-events-view.php?id=167)
So who is going?
John: Plan to be there, sent in my deposit. Also will be at the MidSouth in Canton the week before. Hope to see you there. DAN
It will be great to see you. I plan on being there too.
I was talking to Bev and I wanted to see if there was a way to get a collection taken for Billy Jack while we were there. She is putting a page in the next Motorcader with a note about it. It is heartwarming to see him improving but it looks like there is going to be a long road ahead of him. Kids are strong and can bounce back but that does not stop life from piling on. Also, this GV will be close to FT so I am sure we will get even more support from corporate this time.
Very disappointed we will miss it - we will be in FL for a couple days before boarding a cruise ship for my 50th birthday. Was hoping to meet some of you fine folks in person. :(
I received a request from Bev asking if I could post this on the forum for the Motorcade Club
Ok Club members - I hear talk that many of you plan to attend the Mineola Grandvention in October, but I do not see you registered. It would be so nice to fill that park to the max!!! We've got some fun things planned, but best of all is just getting to see and visit with each other. Please send or call in your registration ASAP. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Looks like they are starting to need a better count.

Just a bump to see who else we might get to meet this October. We sent in our "balance due" last week.
Since it's not mentioned on the Motorcade website, the cost looks to be $579 for 2 in a coach. For the last Grandvention we attended, that included all programs and almost every meal except your chapter's dinner.
Michelle
Starr doesn't want to go this year, even though our vacation starts on the 22nd and we are heading toward TX first... I think I will make an appt for brake work at the factory that week, assuming there will be someone there to do the work. Then we will head on over to Dallas for a few days.
We're coming !! We did our first chapter rally and loved it and everyone! We are anxiously waiting to meet everyone at our first grandvention!
We will be going. I will stop by the factory and sign up this week.
We will be there and also at the Mid South in Canton the week before hope you can make both. DAN
Unfortunately we can't make the Mineola Granvention but we are hoping to attend the North Atlantic Fall Rally in Essex Junction Vermont on Sept. 6th-9th.
D&D
I just saw a list of the South Central group and it looks like eight members will be there.
We will also attend the Canton MC Rally. Looks like the FF group can hold a get together at one or the other.
Gary B
We just sent our $$ to the motorcade! Looking forward to seeing everyone!
We are watching for info on the Canton (FT MidSouth Chapter) rally. No details on the website yet and our snail mail is about 2 weeks delayed due to forwarding.
Anyone have info yet? If so, start a new thread and I'll sticky it :)
Michelle
Steve, Jane Emailed the FT MidSouth Group but has had no reply yet. We are leaving in the AM and will probably have to get any add'l info thru Email.
Gary B
Steve, As the politicians say " I MISSPOKE " we do not have an Email address for the MS FT Group. All we have is a phone number and we have left a message with him. I'll let you know what I hear back. Like a lot of us they are probably traveling. Wagonmaster is Larry Perkins 903-984-6072
Gary B
Do you have to be a Motorcade member to attend? What advantages are there to become a member?
I believe you do need to be a member, but best to check with Beverly Koonce in the Motorcade office to know for sure. The Grandvention is a bit different than the usual Motorcade event in that it's partially sponsored by FT Corporate, I believe.
Tangible benefits to MC membership are listed here Foretravel Luxury Motorcoaches (http://www.foretravel.com/motorcade/index.php)
They include a 10% parts discount from FOT as well as a 10% labor discount for work done by FOT (but not the paint shop), Motorcader magazine (comes out quarterly, I believe) which lets you know what events are in the works, introduces you to FT/FOT personnel, has a technical article or two, and news of new coaches. Motorcade membership also is required to attend chapter rallies and national rallies and go on motorcades. Rallies are usually a couple of days held at one location; motorcades are usually a couple of weeks to a month (or more) and are packaged "tours" that do all the trip planning, caravan from park to park, provide most meals, tour buses to activities, etc. Rallies cost in the few to mid-100's, Motorcades generally $2-4 thousand, depending on the length and itinerary.
Feel free to start a separate topic on Motorcade if you'd like to know more.
Michelle
Thanks Michelle, I think we'll have a look, could work out well.
The Grandvention is a wonderful way to meet up with your friends from around the country. It also is a way to meet the FOT people an the factory staff that comes. To meet James Triana and find out what resources are available. You will learn a lot talking to other FT owners too.
John,
How much are they charging for the Mineola Grandvention? $500? More? How long is it?
Don
Don,
Well, the dates are the title of this thread. The cost is in my earlier post in this thread Grandvention in Mineola, TX Oct. 23-26, 2012 (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=14950.msg99301#msg99301) (appears to be $579).
Michelle
I just visited with Bev and the cost is a but under 600 dollars and that includes the campsite and most meals as well as a few activities. There is nothing left to purchase when you get there. They have some kind of trail drive and I know they have other events too. I always enjoy it and they give away door prizes at the events. Not that you will make anything huge back but still nice. So four days camping and about 8 meals and few socials hours. The best part is visiting with all your FT friends.
The DW and I are planning on being in TX the time of the GV. Does anyone know if its possible to visit for a day and check out what FOT is now offering? And perhaps peruse those units whose owners would like to show off in a act of prideful ownership? We are not Motorcaders.
I would call Bev in the motorcade office.. Just call the FT switchboard and ask for her. I think you could also call the sales department and they could help you too.
Thanks John, we will do so.
Hi Bill, I got this back from Bev the head of the Motorcade Club. She said you would be more than welcome to stop by the GV and to talk to a Foretravel Rep and to see the show coaches. Also, the factory is only 2 hours away and you could drive there to look at other coaches if you wished. She will pass it on as well. She said it is not the policy of the club to ask owners to open up their coaches though.
In addition to the show coaches, there should be some "down time" periods when folks will be hanging around and most FoFums we've met are happy to show off their coaches (especially if they've done upgrades ;) )
There won't be any official forum gathering at the GV, but perhaps we can find a way to identify ourselves to each other so we can put faces with forum handles (our coach has "foreforums.com" at the top of the forward-most side windows, courtesy of Mark and Tanya Z. ^.^d ). Maybe a FF logo printed out and displayed in a window so folks can see it?
Michelle
We Put yahoo in the window at Columbus IN so maybe an FF and our name in the front window would be nice. In fact it might be nice to have Foreforums in as many windows as possible.
Wow.. a newbie here wanting to know more about Foretravel MHs and I see there is some event in Mineola, TX. This is less than an hour from my home. Would this be an event where I could see numerous Foretravel rigs and learn?
The Grandvention is only open to Motorcade members. One must own a FT in order to be in the Motorcade. Now with that said, Foretravel/Motorcade does have a "Pal Rally" once a year where other brand owners can attend.
You can contact the Foretravel/Motorcade office for more information regarding the Grandvention. Who knows, they may allow you to swing by.
More of a rally for owners than a place where I would be welcome to browse.?.
Actually, no futher it is for me to the factory, I should just make it a point to go there.....and I have gotten good communicatin with someone in office there.
Bet about time of the rally I will start seeing FTs on hwy near my home. I live south of Bogata on hwy 37 which goes south into mineolo.
bb
Yes, you will gain a bunch of information on a factory tour. Just call and ask for someone in the sales dept, they will set you up on the tour.
Bill Velting had previously asked, John S. checked with Beverly (Koonce, Foretravel Motorcade office) and yes, non-owners are welcome to stop by the Grandvention and at least see the sale coaches, but do please let her know you would stop by so she knows and can pass it on to the sales staff. If you actually wanted to attend any of the GV sessions, best to talk with Beverly directly and see about working something out. My personal must-attend is the technical session(s)/Q&A given by James Triana and Aubrey Lee.
I do think we'll find some way of identifying Foreforum members' coaches, like a small logo'd sign with our forum "handles" in the window so you can introduce yourself. I'm working on something.
Michelle
Thanks Michelle. Hope my wife and I can make it to the event. Bill
If you visit Nacogdoches, be sure to visit FOT (Foretravel of Texas) and MOT (Motorhomes of Texas). Both will have several units to look at. The factory tour at FOT is interesting. Encore RV in Nacogdoches might be a good stop as well.
Time spent perusing this forum will be well spent if you are looking for Foretravel coach.
We had another brand 37' diesel pusher coach. It was OK, but had some deficiencies. We made a couple of trips to NAC, and spent a few months on the forum. We were alerted to the availability of the coach we bought via this forum. After we bought the 1997 U295, we quickly sold the 1997 Other via consignment at MOT.
We attended our first rally a few months ago. It was a great place to meet people and visit about Foretraveling, but not a great place to see the insides of lots of other coaches. We have found the sales lots in NAC to be a better place to walk through coaches.
Steve and I (and the Posse) should be arriving in Mineola on Sunday. I have an errand to run in the area on Monday, so we much appreciate the Civic Center allowing us to do early arrival (paid separately from the GV; I called them yesterday to make sure).
Michelle
Glad you are having a good time. when are you all heading over to the GV? I just finished up today at FOT for the remod.
We plan on arriving Monday afternoon after our MCD ordering/measuring.
Marilyn and I cruised through the campground for the Grandvention. (It is within 1/4 mile of a big quilt shop in Mineola.) There are about eight coaches on site today. It appears that folk could travel directly from Canton to a site at Mineola.
We will be heading home from Canton because of other commitments next week.
Keep in mind that the Feral Hog Festival is next weekend in Ben Wheeler, TX, which is not far from Mineola. I don't think we will add that to our annual social calendar, but some folk might want to try it out. :)
When I called the Civic Center about early arrival (while we're in the area, I need to stop by Artwork and pottery restoration by The Renewal Factory! (http://www.renewalfactory.com) with some broken decorative figures), the gal said the Motorcade officers/planners were going to be there a few days ahead. The Civic Center was OK with us arriving on Sunday, as long as we understood we had to come to the office and pay them separately for the non-Grandvention nights. And there are no guarantees the site you have before the GV is the one you'll have for the GV. They appreciated the advanced notice and took our name and date of arrival. I also left a phone message for Beverly on Wednesday to let her know we'd be arriving on Sunday.
Michelle
On the road to Mineola with Mom. Should be arriving Monday and have already checked in with the convention center for space. Hopefully will get some of my cousins out for a visit while we're there!
I will be arriving on monday I think.
Today is Sunday and we are on our way to Mineola. Looking forward to the Grandvention. We've missed it for 3 years. See you all.
Ed & Sue Pan
Looks like camp FT is all pulling out today. I will be here for one more thing on monday still then off to mineola.
We are here. So far we have the only ForeForum window sign that I saw during my walk to find the dumpster.
Michelle
We stayed over in Canton and will be in Mineola t'morrow. Jane is VP of SC MC and has a Tues AM meeting.
I have my sign that Harvey Nelson Printed for me.
I gave out a couple dozen cards during Rally and there seemed to be good intertest in the Forum.
Gary B
BTW, My coach not hard to find in Canton, Only GV in the park, I know of at least one other from SC MC so maybe I won't be the only one there.
Michelle, Just arrived about 2hr ago, have sign on my windshield
Jimmy, are you possibly behind and to the east of us a site or two? There is a U280 or U300 there. We are an '03 with a tag and updated head/tail lights, silver/red #16146.
Michelle
I am 14974 blue decals backed in on the grass. See you in the morning
Arrived in Mineola at 1800. Got our sign in the window. See everyone in the morning?
#16926.
never did get my sign from Bev. Oh well I will see you all on tuesday.
Michelle, We are here too. I think Harvey Nelson offered to print out a sign for anyone wanting one- similar to the one he made for himself. Then pick it up and pay for it here! Will see if and when he arrives. I see we are just across from you-- '02 U320-- taupe and white-- 14117. Looking forward to meeting and getting to know you and Steve! Ed and Sue Pan
True, but no charge.
We're presently at MCD ordering & getting measured. From what I'm told it could be late morning before they get to us. Hopefully we'll be in by early afternoon.
Suzy and I are still in Canton. Looks like only one other Foretravel still here with us. We plan on arriving in Mineola tomorrow morning.
Bob
We are still in Canton, also. Will be coming to Mineola tomorrow am. It really is lonesome here.

i will be leaving the Factory tomorrow morning. See you all soon.
Will be in Mineola for the GV about 11 to 12:00 noon tomorrow, Tuesday. Looking forward to finally meeting some of you. DAN
What would my status be by just showing up this Saturday without my Grand Villa.
Live in Dallas area, would like to meet and greet some fine people.
I am a Motorcade/FMCA member in good standing.
Bill Chaplin
Bill,
The closing festivities are on Friday night, so I'm not sure how many folks will be here beyond Saturday morning. If you think you would want to/be able to come out earlier, we'll have the agenda/itinerary tomorrow, early afternoon, so I can let you know when the "free time" blocks are. Let me know.
Michelle
Not usually many free blocks of time but I hope they have some.
Ed and Sue - good thing they'll be feeding us at the GV - you guys need to get some meat on your bones :)) (love the car decor)
We looked for you earlier today - hope we can catch up tomorrow. Have seen Jimmy F., Gary B., Felix M., Tom S., Bill H., Richard and Betty B. so far (I hope I didn't leave anyone out!)
Michelle
John, I assume you are referring to the name tag I mailed to you via Bev.
I printed a new one for you.
Ed Pan: Yours is printed.
Both are on the coach dash, Coach # 16520. I'll be in the board mtg in the AM leaving about 8:30 AM. Audrey will be around to give it to you. See the profile for the coach location. North side of loop, facing North, facing the street.
Any others? Send me an e-mail, catch me, or whatever.
OK Harvey, I will be arriving about by about ten or so.
Michelle, Sue and I arrived from visiting a relative two hours away and came upon the "meatless" couple sitting infront of our coach! We actually thought someone was reminding me of what I used to deal with on a daily basis as one of the Orthopaedic surgeons at the trauma center in PA.! Honestly! But it turned out to belong to Leo and Ineke Volkert, who we met a few minutes after we arrived. As we visited, we heard about the horrible motorcycle accid. they were a victim of. Thank God they both survived! The "meatless couple" could have been them! Looking forward to meeting both of you. Ed Pan
I hope someone posts some Grandvention photos for us unfortunates that couldn't be there. Color us envious. :(
D&D
Didn't get a chance to make a Forum sign for the window, but the checkered flag marks the spot! ^.^d
I see your flag
Steve and Michelle, Should we entertain the prospect of a BREAKFAST meeting of FF Folks on Saturday AM ? We will probably not be in a hurry to leave.
Gary B
We might attend next year, but it would be interesting to see what is planned for this year. Is there a 2012 program posted on-line somewhere?
No online program but when I get home I can scan the program if it makes it thru the week. Lots of stuff planned and some free time as well to meet and greet.
Gary,
Sounds great to us. Our next stop is Nac, so we won't be in a hurry (to start spending $1000/day :P )
Michelle
I am not sure if anyone will be in a hurry to leave until the outside coach leaves as we are the inside coach on a double park space. I suppose I could go through the inner circle of grass and find an exit when the time comes.
DAN
Dan,
Are there many double parked spaces and do they all have full hookups? How many coaches are there?
Have talked with two owners who will probably be new FF members. Also bent Lyle Reeds ear on FT in general and he has a card in his pocket.
Gary B
Here's a quick n' dirty scan
Carol: There are about 82 coaches here and we have full hook ups and came in on Tuesday which was the day to arrive and not be an early arriver. All the coaches on the inside of the circle drive which are mostly two deep have full hook ups. Some coaches on the outside of the round circle drive have water and electric but no sewer. Everyone has electric and water I believe.
The coaches on the outside have concrete pads but coaches on the inside are on grass. Nice place for Rally. Tks DAN
We are on grass. There is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow. Hope the ground is solid.
Thanks Michelle.... looks like a great program.
George
X2 - thanks Michelle. We have wondered what went on at a Grandvention. Seems like quite a bit of eating but then you need some fuel for all those seminars. There are probably other things as well like FT bringing some "show coaches". DW would like that to get some remodeling ideas and info. So, we're sold! - looks like we will plan for the Smoky Mountain Grandvention next year.
Perhaps one day they'll be able to post the general agenda on-line, and early enough to entice even more folks to attend, especially for their first GV. And yes, there is A LOT of food. The seminars include a significant amount of "open mike" time for questions.
FT has an IH-45 here and a used 2004 as well. There is on-site service available should you need it. Dale from Silverleaf is around for the duration of the Grandvention for questions and to purchase stuff. Aubrey hung around a while to answer questions after his hour was up, as did Keith. At the end of most sessions there are drawings for door prizes (no, they won't be drawing for the IH-45 ;) )
Michelle
Listened to an interesting speech by FT engineering. How they start out designing a coach.
Any news about the convention? Foretravel make any announcements about the future?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks,
Jimmy

THe grandvention has been a wonderful event so far. The entertainment was very good and the food was pretty good as well. The benefit of the grandvention is the fellowship with other FT owners. It has been great for that.
James T had a great seminar about the power pole and the things to do to make sure your coach is plugged in right the connection is tight and the things to look for on your power plugs that is showing issues.
The ask Ft was pretty uneventful. The overall mood of the GV attendees was one of satisfaction. That has been a change from the past. David Flanigan shop has doubled this year. IF you look at the forum the one of the most views is what have you done to your FT. I think that says remods are a bigger and bigger thing. It is a testament to the quality of the older units though David did say that he did a Nimbus and a Phenix as well.
Thanks for the update, John..and really happy to hear about David's shop adding additional people. Hopefully, they can reduce lead time. On of the things I complained about to Cory about everytime I was in the parking lot.
As a first timer to any Motorcoach type get together , I can say that this was truly entertaining and the people could not have been nicer. Met some great people whom I will look forward to seeing again soon as well as keeping in contact with on here!
Loads of information from the seminars as well as talking with other members about their coaches.
It was great to meet you Mark...
The new International President is Joe Hamilton. He is a great guy and his wife is wonderful as well. THey were in my mid atlantic chapter and still are. He was the VP when I was president. He lives in FL now and was president of their chapter as well.
Just reread this entire post. Can some one give some examples of what type of "on-site service" is available?
Small stuff usually. jack Bradshaw looked at our Aqua-hot and found a small pinhole leak but not repaired. Also he checked out our inverter and new house batteries to be sure everything was ok.
Our neighbors had a small issue with a retracting table that would not retract and he fixed that.
Repairs mostly. The coach next to us had a leveling/air leak problem. Jack worked on their HWH aux compressor system. Another coach couldn't control the rear A/C unit which turned out to be a poor connection to the control center. I don't believe they provide maintenance such as fluid changes, it's more for if you have a field-repairable issue that impacts your travel.
Michelle
That all makes sense. Nice to hear that there are a couple of FT resources available to do trouble shooting and such.
Call Rudy Leggett and have him fix the pinhole. He did mine.
Yep, got him scheduled already and he mentioned yours! Good to see you at the GV. You stopped for the night?
Getting the roof paint from Justin then the AH leak fixed.
Enjoyed our time at the GV ! Here are some photos of the fun at the GV.
Here are a couple of pictures of the RV park during the event

And a now a day after the event !
Very cool! Those poor lonely coaches left behind is so sad!
They're not left behind. They all have FoFums in them :-*
Here are a few shots of the grandvention and the attendees.
Had a cattle roundup and musical entertainment.

I think the game is called "Corn Hole". At least that's what our Navy Master Chief friend Bill D. called it.

Correct, as the 1 lb bags are filled. With shelled field corn
