Title: Fuse location
Post by: Jerry & Coleen on March 20, 2012, 06:44:23 pm
We are changing our dash radio.  We think the fuse for power to it and the cigarette is blown.  Can anyone advise where the fuse is located?

Thanks.

Jerry,

Your 12V fuse panel might be in a different place, but in my '92 U-280 it is behind the dash; I just lift up the dash lid and the 12 V panel is directly forward of the steering wheel up against the firewall. The fuse for the cigarette lighter is 20 amp; I think the radio fuse might be 15 amp, but is right there in the same panel.

On our '92 U240 the fuse was located in the dash fuse block. Raise the dash and look down behind the instrument cluster. There was a fuse description located under there too.

Same in our 1993.  I found out, how the empty cigarette lighter is next to the ignition switch, and in the dark, just 2" off makes a huge difference in where you insert your key.  I carefully got the key to the bottom of the lighter plug before touching the side and grounded plug wall.

There is no fuse block under the dash on the instrument side of our 95 U-240.  I haven't looked on the passenger side yet.

Thanks for the replies.

You might also check if there is a panel that is removeable directly in front of the passengers feet area

Jerry,

Thanks for posting the year model.  Yes, when they went "wide body" some locations changed.

Rudy Legett figured it out.  They used relays and they are on the passenger side.  We didn't want it wired to the ignition switch.  But we got it installed yesterday.  Nice Sony for $89.  CD, memory stick, iPod.  Pleased with the sound.

You might look inside the large removable panel at the front just inside the door.

Looking for stuff behind my dash I found a CB radio .  Maybe I just need the remote mic ?
