Title: Saw this poor old Foretravel over the weekend
Post by: bogeygolfer on April 18, 2012, 05:19:35 pm
At the back of the storage yard where we currently keep ours.  Sad fate for this old Grand Villa.  Last license was from 2000; looks like someone just forgot about her.

Odd that the tires still have air in them after going unlicensed for 12 years or so.  I suspect an hour with a bucket of soapy water would do her a world of good.

Looks like some one has been "salvaging" parts from it.  I'll take the spot light.

Old ORED's never die.  Shame to see one in this shape, too bad someone can't put it out of its misery.
There is a 89 OREG in the town where I live, it is slowly rotting away, owner wants 10 grand for it, probably not worth 2.

Now that really is a fixer upper.  The thing about foretravel is that it probably could (but would take a lot of work).  I wish I knew someone that had more time than money such that they could rescue it.

Hurts my feelings that I might have sold that coach new.  Ored with a small Detroit or oreg
With a 460 ford.

Wow that makes me realize how long ago that really was. looks like an 89

As many know - my first FT was an 89 OREG. Would still probably have it if it was an OREG or I was related to Dave Metzger and he could have told me how to swap the blown up (my fault) 460 Ford gasser for a diesel -

loved that old classic coach - think it is a der camp or full timer at a park in TX right now. Was perfect - bought it from original owner 7-8 years ago.

This coach appears to be an oreg due to the scoop that has been added to the drivers side engine access to force more air into the carb, as there was issues with the 460 in these coaches. I have changed my share of them when they first came out. Most people tried to go to fast and that big block did not like to be run over 4,000 rpm. looks like would be expensive to get back on the road.

My DW and I looked at an 89 OREG that was owned by a Ford dealer. It drove very well and had more power than I expected. The man who owned the dealership had replaced the carb with fuel injection and some nice exhaust headers.  We put the earnest money down, but it would not pass the CA smog inspection with the fuel injection system on it. He tried for two weeks to get it approved but in the end returned my check.  It was all for the best as now we have a much nicer unit.

I don't want to start a whole new thread for this so.....
Before I bought my coach I had only seen one Foretravel.  Well I should say before I came to Nac that is, and this is it.  The date on the license plate is for 2002. It looks like this coach has been parked for longer than mine has been alive.  Having affection for our brand as I/we do, this makes me sad.  My coach is the U320 in the foreground of the second photo.

I have no idea, I could ask at the storage office.  I was just looking at the tag this morning and it was not a AZ tag, darn photo memory is failing me, it may have been North Carolina but I could be wrong about that.
