Title: Michelin XZA3+ Evertreads
Post by: Ralph on April 26, 2012, 05:34:01 pm
Question for those of you who have recently purchased new Michelin XZA3+ Evertreads...what is the newest date code anyone has received and were your tires in stock at the dealer, ordered from dealers supplier/warehouse, or ordered direct from Michelin?

Last week I went to Herman Power Tires in Nacogdoches and found 6 - 275/80-22.5 H rated XZA3s with 0812 dates. They had recently arrived and will be going on our motorhome next week.

Bob, can you give us a ball park price out the door.

If you plan to use the FMCA discount, allow the dealer time to get the tires direct from Michelin, not from a wholesale supplier.  The dealer needs his invoice to show Michelin supplied the tires.  I recently got some tires that were last year build dates, found out after the install, and did not have a week to wait for shipping.

I should have mentioned my coach does not use the XZA3, due to I think the smaller size on my classic.  Someday I might need those big ones I hope.

Bill:

I did not get a price, but assumed it would be as mentioned here a few weeks ago.

I must have tires from the same batch as BobW. Date code of 0812 and got them at Herman Power in Nac about 3 weeks ago.
I was very happy to get them that fresh.

Ralph - thanks for asking that question!  I had recently posed the question to one of our gurus (Brett W.) as to what would be a reasonable oldest date code to ask for.  Very clever to ask what fresh date codes people have actually seen/purchased ^.^d .

Well, the reason I inquired is my local dealer' stock on hand are late 2011's and after I asked him to check with his supplier/warehouse for 2012's, he discovered his supplier's stock was a few weeks older than what he already has on hand. He ordered 6 directly from Michelin for me today, asking them to check date codes and send the newest.....but Michelin would not agree to that, stating that when orders come in, tires are "picked and shipped"....perhaps he is not a large enough volume dealer to swing much weight??...then perhaps when they come in they will be in the general time frame as those of the other posts, we'll see....BTW, thanks for those replies guys...gives us all an idea what is actually available.

Ralph,
Michelin keeps a good portion of their inventories for truck tires at the TCi's stores across the country.  These Michelin stores should have very fresh tires as all companies today want to keep their investment in inventories down to a minimum.  Check the link and see if your dealer's order comes from one of these TCi locations near you:

Tire Centers, LLC (http://www.tirecenters.com/store_loc/store_locater.cfm?myword=all)

For those in or passing through central FL, the south Orlando TCI keeps plenty in stock. Strategically located south of the Bee line, west of the airport and east of the turnpike.

Our XZA3's were 4811 and put on 5011 by Herman Power, nacogdoches. They have always done a very good job for me and are popular and trusted by the local residents.

I understand they have very fresh tires due in part to the high volumes they sell to MOT and FOT.  Thus the inventory turns over rapidly.  These were load range H, 275/80/22.5

Using the FMCA deal, we paid about 4 grand for our XZA3s less trade in for our old tires ($85 each). I've seen posts elsewhere claiming to have bought them at a much better price but 4 Gs was the best I could do. That's with new valve stems, torque wrench tightening, balancing and tax.

Also bough 6 smaller size Michelins at Herman Power for a 225 awhile back. One thing I noticed there is they did not torque the lug nuts other than powering them on with an impact.

Sure glad we don't have to buy these things too often!

Ralph & Doris. The last time That I had my local Michelin dealer order XZA3's for my coach, on arrival they were dated 2 weeks AFTER the date that they arrived. In other words these 6 tires were not even manufactured until after they were installed. I do not remember the dates but it was about 3 years ago.
We all had a chuckle, then I thought, well, what does this say about government (DOT) regulations and business responses.

Forgot to add on my post re the date code. We bought our XZAs from a TCI shop. I asked about date codes before purchasing and they assured me that they turn so many tires that they always have current date codes. And that was the case.

There was a shortage last year on these tires. They were not to be found most places.  I got two new ones for my tag and they were the last two in the area.  So, I would think that most of them will be new or fairly old as they were not used up and forgotten about in some warehouse.

My tires arrived at the dealer today, date code 1612 on all 6...very pleased with that, they will go on the coach later this week.
