Title: Question on models
Post by: Yetch on April 28, 2012, 06:51:33 pm
Hello.  I am looking at Foretravels.  Interested in a mid to late'90s 36'.  Can someone explain to me or direct me to information concerning the different model designation and what they mean?  For example how does a U245 differ from a U whatever?
Thanks, Mike

Mike,

Welcome to the ForeForum.

U means Unihome= Unibody construction (like Prevost bus) as opposed to coach on frame.

No such beast as a U245.  There is a U225 and U240.

Here are the mid 1990's lineup:

1. U225: 36' Cummins 230 HP B engine and Allison 4 speed  transmission, rear radiator.
2. U240: 36' Caterpillar 3116 250 HP and Allison 6 speed transmission, side radiator.
3. U280: 36' and 40' with Cummins C engine and Allison 6 speed, side radiator.
4. U300: 36' and 40' with DD 6V92 350 HP and Allison 4 speed, side radiator.

Thanks.  Do you have any insight into the '95 U240 that MOT has for sale?

If you're in the market for a 36' Foretravel, the fella who first responded to your question (Wolfe 10, or Brett Wolfe), has probably the best bargain on a 36' FT on the market.  He won't mention it here, but I will.  Brett's 36' 1993 U-240 was recently listed in the classified forum, and if I were in the market I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.  Last time I looked it was only a little more than I'd paid for my 1994 36' U-240, but Brett's is the best maintained motorhome in the country with more upgrades than just the purchase price of the MOT FT.  I've just started down the upgrade and remodel road, and already have more total money invested than Brett's coach costs.

If you're considering '95's, then don't forget the U295 and U320s that were introduced that year!

Ditto on looking at Brett's coach.  Can't go wrong.
