Title: Before & After Faucet and Tail light
Post by: txforetravel on April 29, 2012, 07:56:47 pm
Ok, so we have a few before and afters projects.  The first is the change out of our bathroom faucet.  This change out was not a simple swap.  The old faucet had copper supply lines that were about 6" long.  The new faucet had 1/2 mpt.  So we had to make just 2 trips to Lowes/Home Depot to get steel braided supply lines and a few other things.  Of course the new supply lines only come in 1/2 to 3/8 or 1/4 inch so we had to get a 1/2" to 3/8 adapter.  But once we got all the adapters, the install was fairly straight forward if you can fit inside of a corner cabinet, on your side, with a flexible flashlight!  Oh, it helps to remove the under counter permanent shelf!

The shower was supposed to be much easier.  Right.  It was the older valve so we had to buy the convert kit.  The mixer valve was not installed properly at FOT and was "tweaked" slightly so that the converter kit did not sit flush with the valve.  After some Corian trimming, all fit well.  And NO LEAKS!

On to the tail light replacement.  We opted not to get the FOT lights as we found some on the web (1997 Ford Expedition) for $58 for the pair!

All is back in working order.  Thankfully, we were doing this inside the barn so that we were never out of a bathroom sink or shower.

Nice!

I am noting all you people who do good work. Perhaps I'll try to get you to demonstrate your skills on our coach. ;)

Ha!  I tried to get Steve and Michelle to show me how to wax our coach, but they did not take the bait!

I do have to say, that it's much easier to make these upgrades when you are not "under the gun" of being in a campground or out in front of the house.

Very nice ! ...

Glad you were the trailblazer on the bathroom faucet, thats on our list to upgrade soon and now I have a much better idea of whats involved.  We have the added bonus of having the toilet in front of that cabinet ... I now have visions of getting suck in some contorted position and having to call the fire department for help getting back out.

Michelle and I got to see the new taillights in person and they really do look great ...

PS ... you forgot to say your shoulder hurt when you asked about waxing the coach :P

Bill and I did comment that Steve and Michelle do not have that corner cabinet, but that Steve might get his head stuck in the commode while changing out the faucet!

Steve might get his head stuck in the commode while changing out the faucet!

Which, given it's a VacuFlush could be dangerous! :o

And you did put forth a good effort in trying to get us to demonstrate WashWaxAll on your coach - plying us with dinner, chocolate souffle, a visit to a fantastic lunch place (Noon Spoon in Marble Falls) and a stop at a winery....

Great job on the faucets!  Mine are in ok condition so that is one project that can go to the bottom of the list.

The taillights look great and those will go to the top of my list as they will probably look pretty sharp with darker paint too.  Now if I could just find euro headlights to match it would save about $3k...  :P

The tail lights do look nice (as does the faucet...), anyone know if those (1997 Ford Expedition) will also fit a 99' U270?

Yes, they fit without any modification.  Now, it IS a fairly dirty job and sort of done in the dark as you are inside the back end without much light, dealing with the exhaust and it's not super clean!

Here's the link where we purchased.

Will those new Ford lights fit my 40' 2000 U320?  Do they come with new rubber gaskets?

See Barry's post a view above yours.  The ones Tom got are for 2002 through 2006-ish; 1995 through 2001 are 1993 Ford.  If you can figure out which 1993 Ford model yours are from, the place Tom got his has a variety of options ^.^d

We saw Tom's in person and they look great!

For the earlier vintage Unicoaches, I believe the Ford model is the Econoline vans.

Oh... My bad.  Guess I'll have to buy a 2006 FT so I can get my tail lights! ;D  Don't tell my DW - it's still a secret.  Or maybe these: 1993 Ford F-150 Euro & LED Taillights (http://www.carid.com/1993-ford-f-150-taillights/)  Thanks!

Yes, ours was for a 2002 FT and yes the rubber gasket was included.  But they do not include any soap for the clean up!  It was a fairly messy job and yes, there was some language involved with the install!

I was eyeballing the 95 up lights - they looked the same as the 93 models. Just different styling (no yell0w). Good to know!

I do like the taillights and after googling it seems that Spyder also makes the matching headlights and bumper lights.  You can do stock bulbs or LED.  Interesting alternatives all around.

Dave,
I am trying to track down whether the 95 and up are plug in replacements for the 1993s or not.
I chatted online with 1995 Ford E-Series Euro & LED Taillights (http://www.carid.com/1995-ford-e-series-taillights/) and they seemed to say no.

Several of these look nice enough to invest in.

I purchased a set of the IPCW® - Platinum Smoke LED Tail Lights for my 2000 U320 based on comments a Foreforums member made about the LED tail lights on his U320.  They fit the opening perfectly.  However, they only had 2 connections whereas the 1993 Ford Econoline lens used on my coach uses 3 bulbs.  Consequently, they were not plug and play as advertised.  I returned them but had to pay a restocking fee and shipping.  If your lights have 3 bulbs/connections you might try to get someone to verify that the units you are buying have 3 connectors before purchasing.

I was considering investing the 30 bucks or so for an oem one to try out.

Not hard to rewire the lights.
