Title: Repair Tape
Post by: Kathleen Smith on May 03, 2012, 11:18:32 pm
Hi folks,

I am looking for a tape that I can use on the outside of our Foretravel.  I tried duct tape -  it comes off shortly after I put it on.  I thought of using Gorilla tape, but the head of the house suggested I post this to the forum.  Any thoughts of a "black" colored tape that will not come off?
Many thanks,

Kathleen

I used Eternabond to repair a tear in the rubber roof of our SOB coach. It seemed to work well for the purpose. I carry a roll of it in the FT, but have not used it on the FT. Roof Leak Repair Products & Sealing Tape | EternaBond® (http://www.eternabond.com/articles.asp?id=148)

Kathleen,

Tell us what you are doing with the tape-- that may help us identify the proper product.

We pulled too close to some bushes and a little along the outside of one of the joey beds is scratched - enough that it needs something to go over it and keep the "tear" from getting larger.  The joey bed opens and closes with no trouble, so the main thing that's wrong is that there's a slight groove along a small (approximately 6") part of the door.  Would EternaBond be of any help here?  I googled the EternaBond site and find they have no distributors near us - if it is something we might use, I suspect I can order some on the internet.  Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Kathleen

There is a 3M Pro duct tape (black) that I have been using that is advertised to stick like death (my words) and not leave any adhesive residue when it comes off.  I love 3M everything, and this really seems to work.  ACE carried it when I last got some.

Wow!  That sounds great ... 3M Pro duct tape sounds just what I am looking for.  Thanks ever so much.  I'll check that out!

That repair tape can be found at a roofing supply house.  ABC Supply Co is the largest supplier in the US, with branches in CA.  Here is a link to their CA locations for you.

Many thanks - I see there's a store here in our little El Centro, and I'll pay them a visit!

As a test when Gorilla tape fist came out, I put a square of it on the rear bumper of my truck. it was on a horizontal surface........that was 4 years ago and it is still there. I also put a square of it on the bottom of a number 10 can then filled it with water.... it never came loose. I also put a square on the roof of my old pop-up camper. It is a wrinkled kind of surface definitely not smooth... that stayed on till I sold the camper just recently. I took it off and cleaned up the spot with WD-40 and you would never know it was there..... The stuff is great.

Well, I just happen to have a new roll of Gorilla tape, but hubby thought I ought to check with the forum and get something that might be better, and used by more FT owners.

Think I'll just trot over to the motor home and apply Gorilla tape (and save purchasing the other fine tape recommended by others on this list.)

I surely appreciate all the responses to my question.  This is without a doubt, the best informed and caring forum on the internet.  Thanks to all who responded.

When I had a right front tire blow out, the force of the sudden air blew the door open on the oppisite side of the coach. It broke the latch and would not stay closed. Used Gorilla tape and drove about 1600 miles home and it never came loose.

I plan to put the tape on the side of our FT tomorrow, and I'll post how long it stays!  Thanks for the help!
