Title: Slow-acting service brake valve (was Re: AIR LEAKS!!!)
Post by: Joe Gauntt on May 09, 2012, 07:50:04 pm
I am having problems with a control valve on my 94 Unihome that sends service air to the maxi brakes on the coach. The valve seems to close very slow.  A picture should be attached, can anyone identify.

Thank,

Appears to be the "service relay valve"...as you step on the brake petal air is sent to it from the "treadle valve / aka foot valve" via a 3/8 line. This opens the service relay valve accordingly as to how hard you step on the petal, which allows service air to pass through it to the brake chambers...the harder you push on the petal, the more service air is allowed through the relay valve. The service air comes from the tank via a 5/8 line on most coaches. Hope this helps.

any idea who built this valve, the shop said it is defective, and foretravel is very slow about answering their email.

If it were me, I would make a call to FOT in Nac and not rely on email.  If you give them your coach number than can tell you exactly who made it and if they have the part in stock.

Picture is kinda fuzzy...one thing I don't see is the "braided lines" going from the valve to the brake chambers. Could be confusing this with another valve, verify for sure what valve you have here. You can pick up a new service relay valve at any truck dealer and most NAPA's.
