Title: Water Heater Replacement
Post by: arwilson on May 12, 2012, 11:50:11 am
I am in the process of replacing all of the urathane piping in my '92 U240 and am considering replacing the 20-year old water heater as a part of the process but have run into an issue.

The Girard "tankless" water heater seems a good option (GSWH-1, $489.98 on Amazon) but I must wonder if spending 2X the money to get an "instant-on" is worthwhile.

Any advice?

Thanks. Al Wilson

We have a tankless at home and love it. I was thinking about changing over also but our Atwood heats going down the road from the engine, from a 120V element and from propane with push button ignition so there are tradeoffs. $489 is not a bad deal considering a new 3 way Atwood costs even more. Sometimes nice to take a shower while underway and not sure how well the Girard works in motion.

If your model only heats from propane, it might be a good changeover. You can add a 120V heating element to your existing heater for not too much additional.

We put in the RV 500 tankless and would never go back. It's 12volt heating with LPG. Fits where a 10 gallon heater would or a six gallon with minor  adapting. $1000 for heater and misc. stuff. I reasearched a long time and believe this one is the best.
