Title: Coolant Hose on Passenger Side
Post by: John S on May 21, 2012, 11:38:39 am
Well, I had to replace my coolant hose on the drivers side and today I am replacing the one on the passenger side. I am at Cummins and they found the leak and went to source the hose. It is a FT part. It has different ends.. Oh well, a day in the lot waiting for the overnight..... My question is why would FT use such a hose? Heck it is common to all vehicles to have a return line or a input hose.  WHy use one that is so different?

I changed all the hoses on my 8.3 mechanical. one of the formed hoses was
larger at one end than at the other. after searching endlessly for that hose, I
eventually found out from foretravel that my hose was actually from another
hose that had been chopped in half.
a friend of mine with an older monaco had his coolant lines modified so all
his hoses were straight.

Interesting. Thanks I will tell them that. But they already ordered it from FT.  I will ask FT when I am there what that part number is so we can put it up here. It is common I think to many of our coaches.

John, on my 8.3 cummings, I had a hose on the right side lower that was only about 5 inches long connecting 2 pipe together start leaking was told by Mike Grimes that the hose to use was a Gates 21729.  you cut off a piece on the end that is that size to replace that  hose and use the rest for the hose that goes on the left side to the motor to the top. It has a larger end.

I was about to leave on a 5 hr. trip to Mt Dora from Miami on Fri. and after idle for 15 or 20 min. a hose on the drivers side burst. It took us about 2 hrs. to find a replacement hose. I plan on doing the rest of them soon. Seems like my last minute checks are paying off!

I changed all of mine last month when I did the coolent system flush. The one that I had the most trouble getting was the 2-1/2" straight hose 4" long. NAPA said that it discontinued that hose (#687) My M11 engine system used 3 of them. I didn't check with Foretravel, they may have a different supplier for that hose. NAPA guy said that I got the last one that he could find in the USA. Front hose on the oil cooler had to be cut out of an odd shaped 3"x2-1/2" molded elbow.

I Googled 2 1/2 coolant hose and found several suppliers.

One hose that I ordered from FT was 3 inches on one side and 4 inches on the other.

Got the hose today. It was blue and oddly shaped.  Should be an easy swap out though. For the record I got just the cap from FT in the same box for the surge overflow tank, the plastic cap alone.

Guess what FT sent the wrong hose. They did give us a Gates number.  Should have done that in the beginning though.  It is not a common hose but it can be ordered overnight.

I will post the  number when I get it.

John,

Is it one of the ones listed on Barry's site or something different?

Foretravel said 90 percent of the coaches you one hose but a few use a different one.  I will get the new number and post it if it is different. It seems to be as FT sent the wrong one.

Interesting, Barry has the same gates number that FT gave them.  But FT sent the wrong hose..... it is a different number on the done they sent but now I have the Gates number equivalent so all should be well. I wonder why parts at FT told us that there are two different hoses that they used.  Interesting....  I hope this one will fit. We got it from Gates with the new number FT supplied.
