Title: Rattle in wall 2001- U320 40'
Post by: dwest on June 13, 2012, 09:21:33 am
When driving there is a pretty bad noise associated with road roughness directly behind the drivers seat. It sounds like it is in the wall and just before the slide out. Sounds like something is not closed properly or secure. Slide appears to be in correct position. It sounds like it is coming from the upper half of the wall just behind your head when you are sitting in drivers chair. Wondering if a slide lock is not closing all the way?

Hi David,

Would you describe this noise as squeaking or scraping? Maybe even varying with temperature? I did find that noise in my coach...it was the upper, forward slide locking pin bracket. A fun spot to access - remove the Velcro held upper cupboard rear wall panel. Yep, right behind and above the driver's head . Resolved it by tightening the bracket's two bolts to the frame.

My thoughts since having a similar noise was due to the worn out rubber ? bushings in the 4 locking pin holes 2 on top, 2 on bottom, installed new bushings with the added 2 washers to make a lil snugger fit, now snug and quiet  ;D
I got info from Mike @ MOT on how to etc.

Jim and Dave,

Will be driving this weekend. Will take both of these ideas and run with them. Will report back. I am thinking it has something to do with the locks and play in them. I have let the slide out 3 times and twice one of the sensors did not connect. First time it was user stupidity. Second time I am not sure. It's an adventure though!

Thanks,

David

I understand how it goes, the only "problem" ever had was the 12 Volt motor failed, required a hard smack with a big wrench to get it working, got a new motor in next day,
Per Mike @ MOT, installed the 4 new bushings, all got snug and quiet, no other issues, never failed since, but I do keep the button pressed until lite goes out, either retract or extend mode,  been warned clearly about the sequence and the light.
Enjoy

HI DAVE.....it almost surely is the nylon bushing relative to the slide.  I had that soon after we bought, it was most noticed at lower speeds.  Keith Risch and Keith Davis immediately identified the problem, fix was not bad.  Give either a call.  I would describe it as a pretty heavy clunking sound.  I drove, Jackie went to listen around the slide and found that the source.  Good luck, but if you want me to look up on the repair invoice exact price and project description, send me a PM
