Title: Important Propane Regulator Orientation Info (was Re: What did you do to your coach today)
Post by: bbeane on June 15, 2012, 05:49:50 am
Replaced the LP regulator with new and adjusted for proper pressure (11" WC) with a manometer, cleaned the orifice and burner tube on the fridge, and the hot water heater all is good now. The fridge got to where it did not cool as well as it used to on Gas. Parts $25.00 Tires are next 6 years old Continentals cracking bad on the side walls (All 6 tires), the Continental rep is coming out to take a look. The caseing life should be way better than that. The old "it sits to much deal ain't gonna fly" on 6 year old tires stored under cover with 30K on them.

Bruce,

Make sure they sold you the correct LP regulator.  The vent (nickel size screen) is pointing DOWN.  So, if mounted vertically, the vent will be along the long axis of the regulator.  If mounted horizontal, the vent will be perpendicular to the long axis of the regulator.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE.

Always, when dealing with LP Gas regulators, is to have the vent plumbed outside, you really do not want it vented into a compartment, if regulator leaks, you get a compartment full of LP Vapor, a very tiny spark will make more excitment than you want, not to mention the damage.
Beware

Bruce,

Yes, Marshall Gas out of San Marcos, TX makes the majority of LP regulators for the RV industry and makes them for both horizontal and vertical installations.  With the exception of the location of the vent, the regulators appear exactly the same and sell for the same price.  Hence my post.

Thanks Brett, after install I also checked and set pressure with a manometer to 11 WC " under a load, when the load removed all gas flo stopped lock up was right at 12 WC". Left the Manometer hooked up for about 30 min with the gas valve off to check for any leaking gas valves all was good.  Cleaned the burner/orfice assemblies on the hot water heater and fridge and set the flame on the water heater.

We have found regulators leaking, but you need the leave the gauge on for about 24 hrs to have it show up, the solenoids used on most generators lock up at about 18" WC,
meaning no start.
