Title: Replacing sewer hose connection (was Re: What did you do to your coach today)

Dumped the tanks and grumbled!!! What are folks putting on when removing the factory installed bayonet hookup. How do you get it from the black and oversized pipe to the smaller but popular size?

This is what I put on mine and I love it so far. It works great and is very clean to use.

Drainmaster Polychute hose with cam loc fitting (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=14264.msg82250#msg82250)

I cut off the Thetford (big) fitting, put on a Valterra (smaller) fitting, and a twist on third valve. I empty waste tanks using a Polychute hose with a Valterra style fitting. No leaks, no mess, and the third valve allows flushing the black tank with grey water.

I understand all this but what do you do to transition from the black pipe to the Valterra?

I just cut off the old fitting and glued on the new one with ABS cement. Piece of cake. Just make a dry fit before you glue it and scuff up the surface a bit before you glue. I used a hack saw blade and just took my time cutting the old fitting off.

The fitting you need is a Valterra T1020-9

It's an easy change. I just did mine. What I found works well is to make several cuts through the thetford fitting to the pipe beneath and then take a heat gun and warm it until you can just peel it up with a chisel or flathead screwdriver.
