Title: Slide Bladder pressure and shut off question
Post by: Jim Frerichs on July 31, 2012, 09:12:03 pm
Does anyone remember the normal pressure on the slide seal and where the shut-off valve is for it on a single slide on a 2002?

Bladder pressure is 12 psi. Slide shut off manifold is in the electronics bay.

Mine holds steady at 15psi.  Does that seem too high?

HWH recommends 12 psi

Barry,

Any suggestions for repairing very small holes in the seal...other than replacement? It seems there must be some product that will to it.

not real successful that I have heard. I think that these seals could be salvaged at removal if sent to a place that fixes inflatable boats, similar material, application, pressure. I have been after MOT to save one upon removal and send out to try a fix. Unfortunately that still involves the very labor intensive R and R of the entire slide unit, multiple hour job with a fork lift involved on early models.

HWH doesn't have a field solution, interested to hear from Forum members if they have been successful with an in place repair.

My inflatable was RIPPED a huge hole going through a lock when it was less than a year old. Had repaired someplace in FL, and it lasted at least four more years of tough service before it went down the canal with the new owner as I sold my sailboat.

We tried with ours; no luck.  Emergency '03 slide bladder repair (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=10319.0)  Ended up having MOT replace it (and add the missing "guide/ledge" referenced in that thread).

Would love to have someone pioneer the use of the seal design David Brady came up with for Bluebirds on a FT...

So how do you guys know what the bladder pressure is? Is there a gauge I am not seeing?

You will have to install them yourself by teeing off the air lines.

Dang Barry, You have to stop giving me ideas on stuff to do. ;D  No really, thanks for the answer (once again).

There's a port on the side of the air seal control manifold that takes a pressure gauge, circled in red in the attached pic. T'ing off doesn't really work cause there's a check valve on the manifold side of the air lines:

Michelle,

The seal that I did for the Blue Bird Wanderlodge community will also fit the HWH slide equipped Foretravels. All we need is the height and width of the slide body and we can have Roger Anderson, owner of Dynamic Rubber Inc, produce the seal. We even have the nylon retainer that fits the HWH track.

Yeah, I couldn't patch mine, but think I will try the Inflatable boat guys if I ever have another damaged bladder - similar material - very difficult service, and I can't beleive the gash the fix and that it never failed or leak

It was my understanding that FT asked for one of the bladders that Dave Brady spoke about,to evaluate.
