Mike, I just went out and checked my generator, as it is a 2-cyl propane model in our '89 GV. Might be same as yours.

It is an Onan Emerald III and the data sticker is silver and black, stuck to the fan shroud.
On our coach the gen is right behind the driver's front wheel. The exhaust comes out right behind the wheel and the shroud is forward mounted on the gen. My sticker also says for use with gasoline!! Don't know why. It was rebuilt before we got the coach. I do have all the manuals for this model.

It is a gasoline powered generator converted by Foretravel to run on propane. Brett has mentioned it is better to run off the vapor side to avoid sticky regulators. Mine is set up this way and it certainly looks like it has been for a long time so maybe it was a optional configuration. My 92 model has the Emerald Plus, which may be the same. Doesn't smoke but definitely uses oil.
Dwayne, Your Onan is using oil, not smoking and not leaking ?? Have a cure for it, let me know about the leaking or burning oil.

It just seems to need oil more so than any other small engine I've ever owned. I've switched to straight 30 weight at your suggestion (I think) and that has helped. If I run it 6-8 hours a day for a couple a three days, I'll need to add about 1/2 a quart.
If the engine is using oil, and NOT smoking or leaking, I would change oil to a straight 30 NON detergent oil, run that until it stops using oil. Non Detergent oil has the ability to remove the glaze from the cylinder wall allowing the oil ring to seat and scrape the oil off the wall.
Non Detergent is also called Break in Oil by some.

well maybe you guys can help me with mine. when i start it it runs fine but takes a long time to build up to 120 volts any ideas?

Can you describe this in more detail?
Does it take a little while for voltage to appear, but when it does, it is at or near 120 VAC. If so this is NORMAL and is the delay in the ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) to allow the generator's motor to at least start to warm up before a load is placed on it.
OR, does voltage start low (how low) and then build to around 120 VAC? If so, assume you hear the generator's motor start more slowly and then build to "running" RPM. If so, this IS a problem.

the motor starts and runs at the right rpm but the voltage starts at about 90 to 95 volts then takes 15 to 20 mins to build up to 120
