Title: Removing steerng wheel post cap
Post by: Lon and Cheryl on September 04, 2012, 02:44:48 am
Its time to fix my air horn.
I also have to tighten the telescoping steering wheel, it will move up or down even if the collar is turned to lock it ( not easily but it should lock better than it does).
I don't see any set screws that hold the cap on, and before I tried to "pop" it off I thought I would ask about doing it correctly.

I'm not mobile as I recover from Achilles tendon surgery, but I recall that the cap is held on with two screws that you access from behind the wheel.

Thanks, and good luck on your recovery.

Lon,
On my 2000 you will see a access hole underneath the cover and then an allen wrench can be inserted to remove the screw. I do not remember the size, getting old I guess.  The cover can then be taken off.

Thanks,

Lon, On my 95 U280 you use a real thin blade to pry up the center cap to get access to the nut that tightens up the slide mechanism for the wheel.

Gary I think yours is closest to mine. I went out to take a look tonight and saw no access holes in the wheel. I did see what you reported in the cap.
I will try your advice this weekend.
