After finding fresh, clean oil puddling below my radiator twice in the past 6 weeks, I finally figured out that the hydraulic fan motor is leaking. When I pull on the fan blades, the shaft moves in and out, with an audible "clunk". It is obvious that it has cratered. I checked my records and I bought that new radiator fan motor in August of 2006. So it lasted just six years, 50.000 miles. Is that normal? What has been your experience? My records show that I paid over $1200 last time (to Foretravel). Is that what I can expect this time? Or more?
Can these hydraulic motors be rebuilt?
Hi Don,
Recently, there was a very good report from one of our FT full timers, (I forget his name, but his home base seems to be in Michigan, Hope he sees this and responds.
He had his stuff repaired at a shop in WV, was not expensive and seems to have been a good job.
If I run across his post about it, I will list it.
Maybe a search for hydraulic motor or pump would be good here on the forum.
Good luck,
Dave M

why not take it apart yourself and fix. They are nothing special to a hyd pump/motor, just o rings and seals, unless there is damage to impeller or a metal part.
