Title: Refrigerator lower access panel
Post by: Rick on October 08, 2012, 01:34:22 pm
Any and all,
I am looking at installing a new 110/LP refridgerator and have a couple of questions. Coach is a 1995 U-300. Does anyone know what the height of the window openings are? I am looking for an exact # that someone who has had a window out recorded. It looks like it is around 26.25". The ref has to come thru the window but it looks like it might not fit. Ref depth is 26.25".
Other question. This refer is about 6" taller, so the lower access panel would have to be moved down that 6". Is there any structure below the existing panel. Looking in the morning dew suggests that there is aluminum there but the graphics are all over the place there and it obstructs a clear outline of the structure.
Thanks,
Rick

Rick,

Can the doors on the refrigerator be removed to lessen the depth of the refrigerator?

And to give you an additional 6" of installation height, you don't need to move the outside access door IF, repeat IF you provide a "drain" sufficient to vent any propane that could be in the refrigerator area.  I know at least several of us have run a 1 1/2-2" hose from the lowered refrigerator shelf down through the basement to exit below the coach.  Depending on layout, it can be on one of the bulkhead walls in the basement and take no usable space.

Brett

What refrigerator are you removing-- that will tell many of us what shelf arrangement you currently have.

Brett,
The doors of the new one come off but I do not have the ref so it is hard to know for sure if the doors alone are the problem. The seller of the fridge says that it looks like the doors come off and would reduce the depth but I am concerned that the control panel will still protrude and that might be the limiting feature. I have to have him get me some detailed pictures. The fridge to be removed is the original RM7130. New one is RM1350. Although I am not having any problems, it is pushing 18 years old. The exterior of the cooling pipes look to be in excellent condition so I am not sure I will actually do this mod. I will look back thru old posts to see some of the lowered ref shelf. That's good news about the outside vent. Even if I don't go for this new ref, if I open up the height it will be ready for a residential unit at some point. But for now, I like the propane option. Looks like I have some research to do.
Thank you for the info,
Rick
