Title: Converter electric end
Post by: Dan Noble on October 09, 2012, 09:25:25 pm
Newbie question of the day...

I installed my new PD9280 converter today and went to plug it in and noticed it has a different electric end.  My old one had a normal three prong end and plugs into a normal 3 prong outlet.  Can I simply go to the hardware store and get a normal male end and replace the one that came on the PD9280?  or is there something deeper going on here?

Thanks in advance,

That's a 20-amp 120VAC plug.  What do the specs on the converter say for current draw on AC?

There's another recent instance of the same question (within the last year).  I'll see if I can find the discussion.

The elegant solution which I would do is as follows:
Do not replace the converter cord plug.
Replace the duplex recepticle, where your converter plugs in, with a 20amp/15amp recepticle. These are available at any Home Depot or Lowes. Be very careful with wiring, black covered wire goes to brass color screw and hot in main panel. White covered wire goes to silver screw and neutral in main panel. Green goes to ground. Make sure breaker in main panel is 20 amp.

Thanks Wyatt, that is kinda the direction I was heading after reading the thread Michelle posted.

I ran thru the same drill last spring.  I cooked my converter, and the new one had your same plug, I changed out my duplex plug in the bay to receive either style in the future.

Thanks Dave, I'm planning the same.  Always a surprise on these machines!
