Started engine this morning. Check engine lite came on then stop engine lite glowed. No oil pressure.
Checked all grounds that I could find, with no luck. Removed pressure sensor switch and connected a analog pressure gauge, restarted engine and had 75psi. register on gauge.
What I don't understand is, why does the needle on the instrument panel oil gauge move up and down the scale with the pressure sensor unplugged?
Tried to purchase pressure sensor at local auto parts store. No luck. Called Cummins, was told the sensor has been replaced with a different unit and would need to have the EMC reprogrammed.
Cummins tech said I could unplug the sensor and drive the unit to there shop without engine shutting down. That is fine and good, but I'm wondering whether I might have wiring problems also?
Anyone encounter similar problems ?
Thanks for any help in advance. :(
I left the factory last week and stopped at a Camping World location in Hammond, La. for the night.
Awoke the next morning ready to continue and the dash alarm system was 'beeping' so noted the Check Engine Light ON! and....OIL PRESSURE "ZERO". quick shutdown of course!!
Tried this 3 or 4 times while I gave it thought and checked engine manual/ "which had ""Nothing"" on the "check engine light" issue.............sigh.
Of course I shut engine down fast each time and opening the door to engine, to 'Observe' things/expecting a major oil leak or something...........I opened the dash and pushed hard on the plug that is behind and into, the Oil Pressure Gauge. That Immediately solved the problem but a day later again this happened again..........and found a wiring harness staring me in the face, slightly to the passenger side of center in the engine compartment/door open, that appeared to be "just a bit" unplugged. I wiggled it around and pushed it in HARD. and went back to the driver's seat to see if this might be the cause.
YUP!
I ended up turning around......and driving the coach back to FOT for other issues, so now distanced from it, I cannot offer photos of the connection I expect might be the culprit. sorry.
M11 has two pressure sensors, one for EMC and one for dash gauge. Engine oiling system is low pressure high flow. 75psi is high-should be 35 to 40#
Thanks all.
The 75 psi is the reading with a cold engine. The pressure drops to the range you mentioned Brett, after it has warmed up.
