Well we found it. On a prior post we had asked for help in locating a torquing noise in the front end when the coach went up or down suddenly. Sounds horrible. This is a IFS (Independent Front Suspension) unit, one of only about 18 made in 2001.
Several suggestions were offered about checking bushings on tie rod ends; sway bar; upper and lower A-frames. At the end of the day, the drag link bar (bar about 4'-5' long originating at steering box and going down to steering link) was loose. With 2 hands you could simulate a noise similar to what we had been hearing only not as loud as the force/weight of coach was able to cause more motion etc. At first they thought the entire rod needed to be replaced. Then one of the mechanics spotted the nut on end of link at tie rod moving. He reached up and could turn with his fingers!!! If not for the cotter key, it would have already come off.
Works perfect now. Thanks to everyone again for your help. David West
Wow, now that's what I call a happy ending! ^.^d Thanks for the follow up...
Having one of those 18 with the IFS I was following your noise problem. Glad to see that it was something minor and a easy fix. I haven't had any unusual noise/s but if I get one I'll know where to check first.
Everyone always appreciates a followup to someones problem as it helps in gaining more knowledge about our FT's.
