Has there been any talk about the gathering in desert for Jan 2013. We had a great time last year. Hope to be there this year.
All The Best Cheers Karl
As of a few days ago the January 2013 Lemon Rally is a go.
Details will probably not be promulgated until early December. However, historically the dates have always matched the big RV show dates in Quartzsite.
I am the keeper of the Lemon Rally e-mail list. Thus if you are NOT on the email distribution, and would like to be, please send me a PM to my email address below.
Harvey - I just sent you a PM to be added to the e-mail list

Please add our name to your quartzsite e-mail list Thanks John & Judy

Haven't been vary active on the Forum for a while, I Use to have lots of time, Now I don't! that's OK because business is good. Went to Quartzite last year for the 1st time and meet a fine bunch of people in the Lemon Group. Kenny and Ann Lemon what a nice couple, When I pulled up Kenny helped me get parked and instantly they made me feel welcome. Had a great time meet a lot of great people, I had been on the Forum quite a bit the 2 years before, and meet quite a few people on line, And then got to meet most of them in Quartzite camping. Has any one heard anything about The Lemon Group in Quartzite? Art & Teri Twaddell
Once again I am trying to arrange my schedule to attend the Lemon Rally in Quartzite. I have tried for two years and have yet to make it. Just curious of anyone knows the dates and location yet for this years gathering. Hoping third time is the charm.

Thanks Barry...Always a wealth of detailed information.
Here is the invitation from Kenny Lemon by way of Harvey Nelson for Quartzsite 2013
NOTE: This is the last year they will be hosting it. :-(
The Lemon "GATHERING IN THE DESERT" has been set. Jan. 19th ending on Jan. 27th, 2012.
This is going to be the last year that we (the Lemons) will be putting this event on - and what events, in the past, they have been. Age and Health are catching up with both of us.
Last year we had 71 coaches -WOW! This year we are asking for additional help.
To feed this amount of people, we are going to ask $40.00 per couple or $20.00 for individuals to off set the cost for 7 breakfasts and 4 meals.
We, the Lemons, will be doing 7 breakfasts, the Reacquainted Gathering on Jan. 19th, the Desert Stew, and host the Pot Luck.
As in the past, you all have helped us so very, very, much and we know we can count on you again this year.
Ann is asking for help with the planning and preparation of 1 of 4 meals. Anyone interested, please contact Ann. We will reimburse you for the expense (keep track of what you spend).
As always, we are asking for dishes to pass - i.e. salads, desserts, etc. Plan on bringing a dish to pass for a Pot Luck and some vegetable for the Desert Stew.
Please advise Ann (on her cell phone - see below) of what you would be willing to do and she will get back to you. Again, thank you for helping all these years to making these GATHERINGS so very special.
Our last request:: storage of eggs is a real problem. If many of you could bring - and store in your refrigerator - a dozen eggs - this would really help. Also, a gallon of water would be appreciated as we use a lot for cleanup and cooking. Again, we will reimburse you for this.
We will be in the same place as always (give or take a few yards) so look for the Lemon signs. 7 Miles South of Quartzsite, on Hwy. 95, and look for mile Marker 99 - find LasPaz Road (black-topped road) and turn West. Look for the Lemon signs and then the circle FRIENDSHIP.
Ann's Cell: 720.626.4046
Kenney's Cell: 303.921.3843
E.Mail: KALEMON2@AOL.COM
*Home Phone 303.423.9809*
* We are having phone/answering machine problems so if we are home OK
otherwise use the Cell Phones.
Please advise if you plan to attend and also CC to Harvey Nelson (my very special and favorite VP) so that he can help with the list of attendees. If you don't know anything for sure, just show up.
Weather permitting, we hope to leave Denver on Jan. 11th so after that we can be reached on the Cell phones - numbers above. We will be in Phoenix for a couple of days and plan on arriving in Quartzsite on Jan 17th.
Have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
kENNEY & ANN LEMON
Looks like we might make it to Quartzsite! David just got a stint and is feeling better. Now if the weather will cooperate and David keeps improving we are there! :))
Hi Harvey! Would like to go to the Quartzite rally too- always sounds like great fun! Please include us in the email distribution for details, etc. Thanks much, Ed and Sue Pan
Folks ; This Quartzsite gathering in the desert is a special event . It has been mastermined by Kenny and Ann Lemmon . Some things just happen , but this event has been because Kenny and Ann have worked very hard , spent lots of hours planning , and forked out lots of cash on top of that . Then haul all this stuff and set it up ----WOW-- Well this time around is their last time doing it . It is time for someone to pick up the torch and run with it .My living in Virginia puts me too far out of reach , otherwise i'd do it in a minute . This would be a great time for us all to show up to show our support to Kenny and Ann . Last year was my only time there and Phyllis and I had a ball. Getting close to pulling up my anchor to go west . Sure am looking forward to this event . brad Metzger
I agree. It certainly is something special. Kathleen and I went last year but had to leave early. This year we plan to stay the whole time, plus arrive early and leave late.
best, paul
Roger,
Will you be coming to the Lemon Rally?
best, paul
I talked with Ann Lemon and she has heard from some people who have offered to bring water or eggs.
We will be doing one of the dinners but she has not heard from anyone to help with the other 3 dinners. It can be overwhelming for them without some volunteers to help with these meals.
I suggested if she does not hear from anyone that we should just make the meals "Pot Lucks" rather than they try to do it all which is too much for them at their age.
If you were thinking of helping, if you could let her know as soon as possible it will help in her planning of this daunting task.
We are in a Quartzsite campground and are wondering if anyone will be arriving early to the Lemon gathering off MM-99?
Hi Barry and Cindy, not gonna be there early but will be there about the 18th or so.
See you then
Richard B.
We are in Bouse, have driven to the site a couple times and plan on moving to mm99 when other folks get there. I'm guessing next week some time?
Roland
Hi Barry; Judy and I are thinking we'll arrive Wednesday, the 16th. Things happen, but that's our plan.
We will plan to move to the MM-99 Lemon site on Wed Jan 16, too.
We will be arriving Thursday from Yuma. If I can bring anything from here, let me know.
We are in the area , at Desert Gold CG , at exit 31 , on I-10 . I will wait till things cool down a bit before we arrive. This mourning woke up , checked temp. --30 degrees-- can't stand all that heat .The wind is a problem as well . The flag on younder pole is straight out . Took a ride on my toy . Had to come back for long johns and electric socks . Oh well , I'am here , gona ride and shiver any way . Brad Metzger
Beats being in Nac today we woke to ice covering everything but the roads and tonight will be colder so we will have to watch that closely.
I am on the (3 years of trying !!)
Left Avarado @ 8:30 this morning with sleet on the ground, roads clear.
Cleared up just before San Angilo, nice ride into Ft Stockton (Road Runner RV park) Dinner on the grounds, Walmart for stuff forgotten.
Right now it is OAT 26, ISAT 67.
Tomorrow Alamgordo NM for white Sand ( if not to cold ) Alternate is El Paso, Fort Bliss
Bill - if anyone deserves to get to Q this year, after the multiple roadblocks in the past it's you! I hope you have a blast!
Michelle
Go, Bill! I spent this evening in NAC with D&D Cobb, and several other FT folk. There were good stories about you and your shop. Best wishes for a great trip for you and all the other participants gathering in the desert.
We are heading out to the Lemon Quartzsite site this morning, Wednesday Jan 16. . .
We will be heading out to Quartsite Friday, Jan 18th.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Richard B.
Hello everyone,
Sadly in spite of Don's valiant efforts, the coach will not be ready to roll in time to make it to Quartzsite this year. However, we do not want to miss this historic event with all you fine people and so we have decided to take a road trip in the car instead.
Our plan is to make it to Yuma on Tuesday night, stay overnight in Yuma, and come to the rally on Wednesday morning. We won't be there in time for the 8 o'clock breakfast but should be there sometime mid morning. So if you see little blue Honda Fit driving into the rally Wednesday morning you'll know it's not some lost motorist but a fellow Foretraveler sans Foretravel!
Of course we realize that one day will not be long enough to see all we want to see, do all we want to do, or meet everyone we want to meet. Still, we hope that with the help of you Quartzsite veterans we will be able to pack as much into the day as possible.
Looking forward to seeing all of you! b^.^d

For the third year in a row, a medical emergency has happened to a family member just as we were about to leave for Quartzsite. Gaylie's step-dad had a couple of falls and contracted pneumonia as a result of the hospital stay. His doctor has advised us not to go very far away as his condition is very precarious.
I would not normally go into detail but to our members in the U.K. and retired military, Bernard is one of the last surviving RAF pilots from the Battle of Britain in 1940. He was shot down twice in Beaufighters and the last time in a Spitfire. He was too low to bailout and suffered a broken back as a result in the crash. After the war, he was flying as a civilian on a commercial flying boat crossing the Atlantic when it ran low on fuel and had to land in very rough seas next to a destroyer. He was the last one off after helping others climb a rope ladder to safety on the ship as the aircraft sank. I take my hat off to Squadron Leader Bernard Hamilton.
Both Gaylie and I were really looking forward to meeting everyone and putting faces together to match all the posts from the last three years and swap some lies. I hope pictures will be posted and we can at least share a little of the fun.
Best to all,
Pierce, Gaylie and Koda
Sorry to hear the news Pierce and Gaylie. Lost my godfather last November who was an amazing Brit and an official witness to the Japanese surrender in the Phillipines.
Bonnie and I will be rolling into camp on Monday around noon and look forward to meeting many of you whom we have chatted with and taken advice from on this wonderful forum.
Hi Pierce & Gaylie,
Sorry to hear the news. We owe much to men like Bernard. They made all we have, and do, possible. I join you in saluting Mr Hamilton.
Raymond
Big bummer Pierce. I was looking forward to finally meeting ya'll in person.
Pierce and Gaylie, thoughts are with you and of course your step-dad.
Take care.
John H
Pierce and Gaylie,
We salute Squadron Leader Bernard Hamilton. He is one of Britain's & the Allied Forces true heroes and has given much to advance freedom in the world. God Bless.
We are here in Tucson at the Air Force base and will find a place between here and Quartzsite to fill up and empty tanks that need to be. Then we will pulling to Lemon rally Saturday. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Sorry to hear we will not be seeing Pierce and Gaylie. We understand I lost my dad in July and David lost his uncle in Nov. , both were WW11 vetrans.
we are in site 286, where you
cell 81.821.3869
will stay one more night, then to Quartzsite via Gila Bend
Bill, once again we miss meeting each other. We are still in NAC and will be here for at least another week. We are very glad you are healthy and able to attend the Lemon Rally. The Lemons are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.
Pierce, sorry for you problems. You and Gaylie would have had a great time and I'm sure lots of people would like to have the opportunity to meet you guys. We feel very fortunate the Peggy and I were able to attend last year. Great venue and group.
Bill was good to meet this morning. Next time we are going for the biscuits and gravy. we took your advice and we are at Gila Bend and then on to Quartzsite! See you at Quartzsite!
We wish to thank all of you for your kind thoughts and wishes for Bernard's recovery. He has surprised not only his doctor but the hospital and while still in serious condition, the fever has gone and he is gaining strength. Tough guy even at 94.
I told him about a Foretravel forum member's step-brother's landing with a fire in his Spitfire's cockpit and he smiled. He looked off and started a story about his Beaufighter and an He-111 shooting each other down in the night over Newcastle. He had just gotten to the part where his engine had been hit when he fell asleep. Hope to finish the story when we visit again tomorrow.
Thanks again for the good wishes. Hope everyone is having a great time in Quartzsite.
Pierce & Gaylie
The stories of that time are so compelling. My uncles fought in that conflict and most of my early life they were quiet. The next gen got Korea and SE Asia and when they came back is when the stories started. Time heal the biting pain but every so often you would see a tear.
And we're still in Nac and wishing that we could be at the Lemon Rally also! We've been there three times, and have had a wonderful time and met great people. Kenny and Anne are wonderful people, and as we all know, wonderful people attract other wonderful people!
I posted somewhere that Rita and I would make it again this year, but a business situation is going to keep me home for the week. Have fun all, maybe next year if there is a rally next year.
Our travels took us to Florida instead of AZ this year. Presently we are at the Mayport Naval Air Station, watching the ships glide past on their way in and out to sea. It IS almost as windy as Quartzsite was, however! Wish we were there to do some more 4-wheeling and see all the great folks we enjoy so much. Have fun, kids!!!
Kent Speers.......missing you at the Lemon Rally :( Whoa.....almost spilled my cocktail.
Looking at the member map, it appears that I am the only one here. :(
Sure is lonely here in the desert.
I could move our pin to the desert if it would make you feel less lonely. :P Unfortunately, we won't be making the trip this year. I bet you might find some friendly folk if you look around. ;) Seems like I've read about some folk who are in a desert somewhere out west.
Just got a text that Bill Chaplin has made it to Quartzsite, after three years of trying. He says a bunch of coaches are there already.
Just a "want to be" back here in Ft. Worth. Have fun everyone.
Hello!
I would have liked to include in-text photos here, but not sure it would work here. So go to:
http://www.lazydazers.com/index.cfm?fa=ShowItem&ID=3270 (http://www.lazydazers.com/index.cfm?fa=ShowItem&ID=3270)
and go down to the Lemon Rally part to get some of the flavor of the rally.
best, paul
Paul,
Please consider sharing here on the board rather than sending folks off the site. If you upload the photos to an album you can put them in-line with text using BBCode; Steve does it all the time.
Michele
As I thought I made clear in my posting, I would have included photos if I was sure I knew how to do it.
I simply don't have the time to figure out how to do it.
best, paul
Nice photos, Paul. I set up a production system for a "maquilladora" in Mexicali back in the 1970s so I got to know the Imperial Valley pretty well. I remember that it got pretty cold at night but usually heated up during the day. I guess this year is special.
What I loved about the area was the juxtaposition of wilderness, rural agricultural America, and raucous city life in the Mexican city of Mexicali. Mexicali is the capitol of the state of Baja California, Norte and home to a university, night clubs, terrific restaurants and many, many American factories. In those days travel back and forth across the border was simple and many Americans employed at the manufacturing plants on the Mexican side commuted between work and home in El Centro. I chose to live in a nice apartment on the Mexican side.
There are exotic oases in the mountains west of Mexicali that are beautiful. I had a 4wd Dodge Ramcharger and spent a lot of time exploring on both sides of the border. Tons of fun!!
Sue and I want to do a Quartzite rally but we're 4.5 years away from her retirement. Thanks for the pictures. :)
Craig
That's interesting. We have friends who lived in Mexico only 40 clicks south of Mexicali in a beautiful home on the Colorado AND commuted to the US to work every day.
best, paul
I crossed MX to US at Tecate once, but have not traveled between Tecate and Mexicali.
I'll have to put it on the list.
best, paul

Already missing the Quartzsite group. We had a great time, sorry that it was too short. Good meeting everyone and putting names to faces on the forum. What a great bunch! Ken and Ann thanks for putting this altogether. And all the others that assisted you did a great job! ^.^d
Anyone going to be in the PHX area at the beginning of feb as we are travelling up from Mexico to be in Mesa for a month. Parking just off 360 at Ellsworth ??
JohnH
Had a great time at the Lemon Rally today...only wish we could have stayed longer. :( Thank you everyone for your warm welcome! It was wonderful to put some faces to forum names. We hope to see you all again at a future rally when we can actually be there in the Foretravel...
Here's a pic "Around the Fire Ring" for those of you who weren't able to be there!

Had a terrific sunrise in Quartzsite the other day before the rains came.
I remember that sunrise! That picture is worth framing Barry.
John,
We'll be at the Escapees North Ranch in Congress until late March. Let me know when you arrive.
We took a picture of that sunrise, but it pales in comparison to yours! Thanks for posting it!
It was another awesome gathering.
