On my '95 U280, the hinge pin was retained by plastic inserts that finally rotted, allowing the hinge pin to work its way down to the point that it would interfere with operation of the automatic step. I would hammer it back up and tried various fixes, like "e" clips to help hold it in place. Nothing seemed to work and FOT said the door had to be removed and the hinge replaced to the tune of $300+labor. I fixed it for a 10 cent roll pin. I drilled a 1/8" hole in the hinge pin, just above one of the supports, and drove the roll pin into the hinge pin. Now, it can rotate any time it wants, and the pin stays perfectly put. Don't forget to have the hinge pin where you want it before you drill. I center punched the hinge pin and then drove it up slightly to be able to drill the hole. That way, when you insert the roll pin, the hinge pin will naturally settle to the correct position.()
Go to Youtube.com and enter "Foretavel door" in the search box. There is a vid on how to remove the door and fix the hinge. Must have two people the door is very heavy. But your fix is a lot quicker!!!
