Title: Outside mirrors
Post by: dwest on November 16, 2012, 04:57:52 pm
Our 2001  u320 has the chrome outside mirrors. 2 piece. Small section on top. According to Barry's info these were made by Ramco? I went to there site and did not see. Also, these have the Foretravel logo made into the front.

My question is there is a black device on top of the mirror torpedo shaped. I am missing the one on the passenger side. I am trying to figure out purpose and replace. I'm guess it is a temperature sensor?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

David

Ramco "top hat" is probably the "third" mirror on top

Could the torpedo's be the goofy things they sell to repel deer? Picture would help

The torpedo does repel deer.  Our local sheriff when from twelve deer strikes a year to one in the last 5.  I also have them on the coach and the truck and the jeeps.  They do work in all but rutting season... then they are running and nothing will stop it.

The deer repellers do work. Years ago I used to drive a semi across Pennsylvania twice a week. Tons-O-deer. They seemed to help. You have to keep them clean or there useless. One direct bug hit will make them ornaments. The wind going thru them is what makes them work. Ive heard them called deer whistles...

I would not have guessed that. Well, the next question is where do buy them?  I am missing the one. Looks like something is missing as the 'base' is still there.

Thanks,

David

The deer whistles do work. When I rode a 1986 Yamaha FJ1200  in the mountains of Colorado, where I lived for many years, I had two mounted under the front fairing and never had even a sighting (day or night). Many riders swore by them. A few that wished they had them fitted had very scary stories of near-misses. We usually lost a few people each year to collisions.

I'll fit a pair under the front valance on the U300 when I have it ready for the road.

Safe motoring,

Michael

Our county sheriffs dept uses them, and deer accidents have gone way down.  But bear accidents are up.  But then bear accidents were never as high in numbers as the deer collisions were.  Our county has one of the largest deer populations in all of NYS.  We probably have more deer per square mile than people.  These are what they use:
