Title: Cobra CB radio non-coiled-extension microphone cable
Post by: Barry & Cindy on November 22, 2012, 02:27:24 pm
We have the common Cobra CB radio model 75 WX ST (all-in-one) mounted near accelerator pedal.

We seldom turn the CB on, but when we do use it, we find the coiled cord too tight to easily use.

This model has a permanently attached coiled cord on the microphone end.  The other end of the coiled cord has a connector that plugs into a small metal box under the dash.  This metal box connects to 12-volt power, CB roof antenna & external speakers.

We found that Cobra sells a 4' straight cord ($17) that connects between the coiled cord and the metal box.  This allows the microphone to be used without the coil pulling on the microphone.  Cobra part number is AC 702.  Amazon.com: Cobra AC 702 4-Foot Microphone Extension Cable: Car Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Cobra-AC-702-Microphone-Extension/dp/B0009EI9FK)

Yes, it is a very pretty site today!
Barry, I hated that d--- Cobra hand unit. Every time I picket it up, my small hands altered the squelch or volume thumb wheel so that I never knew what kind of reception I had. Besides, it required right hand operation. My present unit came with a small Cobra unit mounted vertically on the side panel near the drivers left knee. This has proven much handier, I epoxied a rubber microphone holder to the aftermost edge and threw the hand unit in the trash. The only use that we find for a CB radio is when traveling in convoy and we seldom do that anymore.
