Just got this in an E-mail.  Don't know anything about it but it may be a good deal for some.

Our neighbors have(had?) that "service" and were not satisfied with it.  They needed transportation of their RV home after the husband was hospitalized and GS didn't hold up their end of the bargain.

I am in the process of purchasing a 1998 36ft U270. My old coach, I do mean OLD, 1992 Gulf Stream 34 ft diesel broke down twice this last summer. Both times requiring a tow truck. I am a member of Good Sam and have their Road Side Assistance. The cost was around $270.00 for two years.  As you all should know these tow truck's are not cheap. When they leave their driveway the clock starts at the rate of $150.00 per hour on average. Any repairs after the tow are your responsibility. The first tow would have been $600, the second was $450. I would say that Good Sam Road Side is a very good thing to have.

Sawdust,

Welcome to ForeForums!

The GS Travel Assist is a medical evacuation/transport service, not their roadside assistance.

Lots of folks use GS or (our personal preference) CoachNet for roadside assistance and wouldn't travel without it.

Thanks maybe I will look into CoachNet when this expires. Yes, I did know the one you were referring to was for medical assistance. Just thought is was worth mentioning the Road Side Assistance. Got burned real bad on the GS, didn't make home after pick up and the engine went. After a lot of talking with my mechanic we determend that it had set it the woos for many years. I was very naive, it was my first MH purchase and very foolishly took the private sellers word. It cast me $9000 to have it repaired with a used engine.

I am new to this motorhoming so I have a lot to learn and with a FT I believe this forum will be a great help.

Although I am still a member of Good Sam, mainly for the CW discount, I have found it to be very advantageous  to stay far away from their various offerings, especially their road side assistance.  Burn me once and I might forgive, but burn me twice, and I never forget.  And I also believe in word of mouth advertising, be it good or bad!  In my book, CoachNet is the best out there.  They have never stranded me in a large city over the weekend, or sent a, just released out of prison, mechanic (with his girlfriend) to work on my coach, like another outfit did.

Nice to get the real scoop before parting with the cash!

I have Coach-Net based on all the good reports.  I particularly like the extra cards for wife and children.

P.S.  Welcome Sawdust316!
