Title: RRadio
Post by: jaholder76 on December 09, 2012, 02:09:10 pm
Has anyone heard how member RRadio is doing?
I sent him a PM but haven't heard. Last I knew he was still stuck in crossville TN waiting on his radiator.

I just checked the member list and he was last active yesterday.  I hope all is well.

Thanks so much for your concern and all your help my friends.

The fiberglass fan exploded and destroyed the radiator. I removed the radiator and had it recored and reinstalled it. I had to do the work myself because diesel mechanics refuse to work on diesel pushers. I now have a nylon fan and will NEVER own any vehicle with a fiberglass fan again. Apparently fiberglass fans explode all the time, but I wasn't aware of it. If you have a fiberglass fan get rid of it now before it explodes and leaves you stranded someplace where you can't even hire a mechanic to fix it.

yes, I remember all that info but after all the help from church group and rads in and out you were having problems getting the second (same) one repaired (if I am correct). Last time I read a report you were waiting on it as it had been shipped all over the place etc etc etc. From then on is what I meant or maybe I missed your postings on this issue??? or the Tequila here in mexico is getting better every day?

Glad your up and running again.
On a side note, I just happened to be looking for future camp grounds and spotted Boone.
What do you think of the campground and area?

I was at David Crockett state park in TN. The place is loaded with deer and they're right around the campground, probably because the place is nearly empty this time of year. I was sitting in the copilot seat talking to my mom on the phone last night while watching a whole herd of deer right in front of my coach. I have a pair of 7x50 Nikon marine binoculars that can practically see in the dark and they're great for watching deer. The campground has 30 amp service but no 50 amp that I saw. There are actually two 30 amp hookups per site, and I presume they're probably not on the same leg of three phase power, so an electrician could probably make an adapter to turn two 30 amp plugs into one 50 amp plug ...but I'm not responsible! ;D There are a few trails but they're nothing spectacular and I could have hiked them all in one day. Some of the trails are paved bicycle trails. They're still nice, but not what I was expecting for hiking. The campsites are small and nowhere near level. I backed my coach up onto leveling ramps for the first time and it was more excitement than I wanted, but it worked out well. The bath houses looked nice but I didn't use them. I probably won't visit David Crockett state park again anytime soon. It wasn't a bad park, but Henry Horton is nicer and closer to Nashville.

I'm at Pickwick Landing state park currently. I just arrived and haven't had time to check the place out yet. Some of the sites have 50 amp power. Most of them are way off level. In some places the park smells like a sewage treatment plant. I'll ask the ranger what that is. I'll write more about it later if you guys are interested.

Scott,

How you doing with the water issues from condensation? Do you like your coach better now that it is fixed?
Title: Re: RRadio
Post by: RRadio on January 30, 2013, 04:51:39 pm
The condensation has gone away. I'm in a warmer climate and I'm able to plug in and use the electric roof heaters. The electrical issues went away as soon as the walls dried out. I like my coach about as well as before. It's way more reliable now with the new fan and radiator. I still have a few things that need to be repaired though. I'm working on them one at a time and getting them fixed as I figure out what to do. The worst things that need to be fixed currently would be the CRT tube for the Audit monitor, and an unidentified solenoid valve on the airbag suspension that leaks only when I have AC power from either the generator or shore power. I intend to go to Foretravel and remove it in their parking lot and see if their parts guys know what it is and how to get one if they don't have it in stock. I already removed it once and made the leak a little better, but I don't dare do it again until I'm someplace where I can get a replacement... Would your old CRT tube work as a replacement for my Audit 760 monitor? I have a 5" black & white tube measured diagonally with a 4:3 aspect ratio like the old tube TVs had. My CRT just shows a flat horizontal line now. I was gonna try to get it repaired or find a replacement but I haven't figured out what to do yet.

From my experience, you can forget having any of the Javelina system (Audit) repaired at a reasonable price. Both Pierce Stewart and I purchased a complete Video system from eBay for under $100. It included both a new 7" monitor and color camera. The new monitor can be installed over the old CRT location and you can use the old existing cable and wires with adapters. There are a number of different threads on the forum in this regard to provide more specific information.

Glad you are back on the road. I'm confident that your satisfaction with your coach will grow the longer you have it.

Scott,

I don't know if it will work, THe coach is in Tampa area, I will have my Mom check under it and see if it is there.

Give Tim at RV CAMS a call in New Oreleans, he knows what works with what - I have a green screen from my 200o (unless I threw it out....) and I used to have Dave Heads color monitoer but gave it away to someone on the forum when I bought my new one.

Good decision to stay with FT, sorry about the fan and radiator, but now you must have gained confidence in your mechanic ability!

Going to FOT not a bad way to get the questions answered.

Stop by and see MOT as well, look up Mike Rodgers, say hi - he is a wealth of info as well.

Mousetail landing State Park is a nice park with exceptionally nice campsites.  You might check it out if you're headed towards Memphis.  There's a few hiking trails but nothing special about them.

I called RVCams the other day but they didn't seem to know what I should do. I'm resisting the temptation to stick an LED display on the dashboard over the built in CRT display. It would be nice to have a color display but I like the built in look. I guess I'm vain about certain things. I'd like it to look like the factory built it if possible. I have a 48 year old Chevrolet that I try to keep looking as close to factory original as possible. I guess that's where I get this desire to keep the original appearance if I can.

Just found out from the ranger that there's a paper mill near Pickwick Landing state park and when a storm blows through the wind changes and brings the horrible stench through the park. He told me Big Hill Pond state park, where I was going next, only has water hookups, but no electrical hookups, so I guess I won't be going there. I'll probably go to Chickasaw state park next instead. He also suggested I avoid T.O. Fuller state park in Memphis and go to Meeman-Shelby Forest state park instead. I may stay at Mousetail Landing state park on my way back to TN in a couple of months. This particular ranger has been to most of the TN state parks in his 32 year career and was a wealth of information.

Having Mom look under coach for CRT, might be worth a call to MOT parts, they swap out a lot of newer CRTS for the old stuff, may have a working removed one. Mine was bigger than hole in dash, don't have a picture, by my OCD self isn't bothered by the look at all

I asked Foretravel about the CRT when I was at the factory service center last time but they didn't know what to tell me.

Thanks for the campground info. I had my pioneers mixed up. You mentioned Davy Crockett and I'm thinking Danial Boone. I'm looking at Kentucky your in Tennessee.
I was searching campgrounds in Kentucky that would be a easy trip to, from Chicago.
Great to hear your mobile and great to read your campground reviews.
I will stay tuned, thanks.

Scott,
I believe I have a black and white  CRT at home when I replaced it with color in my 93 grand villa . Right now I am at FOT having work done and will not be back home for about six weeks. If you can wait that long I can send it to you. I believe it was still working when I replaced it.

Not yet, I'm camping my way across Teksis to my mailbox in Dallas. I'm at Daingerfield state park currently and it's a pretty nice little place.

I did get the CRT and it is working, and Felix sent me another one so I'm carrying a spare around in my cargo bay. The tubes are 20 years old and it's always good to have a spare. Thanks so much my friends. I'll have to do something nice for someone else to "pay it forward" ^.^d
