Title: Square red buttons ID
Post by: sonshineclg on December 09, 2012, 04:57:50 pm
There are two square red buttons in my 1989 Foretravel Grandvilla. When you come in the door, on the right hand side of the upper cabinet. Then in the bathroom, there is another square red button above the TP dispenser. Is this an after market or from the factory? Are they to the same item or different? If the factory, does anyone know what these buttons are? From my formal training when I was a little boy; Bugs Bunny on Loony Tunes said, "Nevew push da wed button! But nevew evew push da wed button!" ;D So I have not pushed them. I know I will be able to tag them once I post here. Thanks folks.

I would hazaerd a guess that they are just to remind you the pump switch is on both after you have finished in the bathroom and before going out the door. Turn the water pump on and see if they light up?? John H

Another thought, is they might be for an electric rod in the gas water heater. I have added an aftermarket hot rod, and the switch has a red light to indicate when the power is on.
You have more self control than me, I would have tried the switch. If it lite, then figure what I have done.

Dave, had not thought of that one, its more likely than what I said as I did not look at the year of coach. John H

My guess is they are additional water pump switches. The water pump relay is setup such that you can add as many switches as you want without adding additional relays. I don't think they are OEM. The switches look like a variety I've seen at Radio Shack.

Looking at the pictures again I think I see another "eye" to the right of red light over the toilet paper roll. It is in pretty much the same location to corner of metal holder as the red one. Am I seeing things or what?? maybe a camera ;D ;D ;D ^.^d John H

John, the "eye" to the right of the red button above the TP holder might be a "Smell-O-Meter and the red switch might be for the exhaust fan. The switch just inside the door? Strange. Our '89 doesn't have either red switch altho one in the throne room would be desirable.

Gee, between us all we should be able to figure this one out. Maybe just press the button for the light to come on and see what happens. Hey, maybe it's an ejection seat button ?? John H

I'm with John on this. Not sure I would be able to keep from pushing a mystery button. Well, unless it involved a Launch Code sequence or something. :o

Sounds like they are unique to that coach, since no one else has mentioned having them. That being the case, are they indicator lights, switches, or lighted switches? If switches, momentary or on/off? I agree with John Hayworth that there seems to be something else above the TP holder. I'd be inclined to start digging and see what those things might be.

I think I read somewhere that the indicator lights were part of a early experimental option on the higher end models. The BW option is activated when the sensor detects movement or "hears" a AAAAAAAH sound from the small microphone that you pictured. The BW option then begins and the warning light is illuminated.
The Coach designation was a Unihome U 300 SE/BW.
The SE ( Special Edition) The BW (Butt Wiper)
There should be a warning label in clear view above the toilet. It should read: CAUTION- DEACTIVATE BUTT WIPER WHILE PRAYING TO PORCELAIN GOD ( serious injury my occur if BUTT WIPER is not De-activated when head is inserted in bowl. ALSO, DO NOT sit on toilet backwards when BW is activated!)
If the label has been removed you should immediately call the Foretravel parts dept for a replacement!
I hope this helps. LOL

Now that was all just too funny. You folks have way to much time on your hands. :)) Both buttons are push buttons. There is a green led that comes on in the bathroom. Nothing happens, no sound or light for the one next to the entry door. I made sure I was not sitting on the porcelain throne when I pushed the button in the bathroom. I will call Mike Grimes at Foretravel. Thanks for all the suggestions. Maybe you can call Mike at Foretravel and suggest they add somethings like you all suggested. Your suggestions seem to be a real strong demand for "funny" things in the bathroom. Probably the best laugh would be installing everything you suggested and then NOT telling the co-pilot. After you hear the three minutes of screams, then call 911. You will be needing them.

I forgot. The 2 water pump switches are in front of the sink and just below the TP dispenser. Have a great day. I know I will and it is you alls fault. ^.^d :))

The ones as you come in the door are for the side lights on the bus, I think,
The one above the TP holder, Scary, Top end models you say, It may be the switch for a sanitary pad remover, dont push it if your a male, Thats a hospital job and you will speak with a squeeky voice,
I am very interested, as I also have a 1989 Grand Villa, I dont know what the buttons do and would like to find out,

The instructions regarding the BW option reminded me of an experience during my inspection of our coach.
Our coach has a lever on a bracket beside the toilet. I discovered the lever when I inspecting the coach before buying it. As I leaned over the porcelain appliance to get a good look, I tested the lever to see what would happen when I pressed it. D'oh! The previous owner installed a bidet! :o Fortunately, they also had a towel on the nearby towel rack.
It is indeed prudent to be wary of the "mystery controls." :P Inquiring minds look forward to your exposition of the purpose of the red buttons.

Y'all to smart for me, I wonder what the lil white button in the TP pix is for? maybe a reset the alarm once you push the red one? They can not be factory installed, the one is not straight, not FT quality looking. Besides if they were factory, someone would have a correct answer, don't you think? Buying used, you never know what you have for sure, always takes a while to figure out all the buttons/switches and locations, hell it took me 4 years to find the toe lights & switch. Betcha, there are more mystries in that coach, creative wiring etc? Be careful :o Dave M

::) Two things, I would pull the T.P. holder out from the cabinet and see where the wires go. ;) Now, Next, I'm going to install a couple of random tel-tail lights somewhere in my coach so that after I sell it you-all can have a great time trying to figure out what they are for... Ha, Ha :)) :))
