the leak really flows when , as you probably know , start engine . Any stop gap measures or do I have to remove the side plate and replace the gasket immediately.  Go Rockets & J Lim

My steering gear started leaking early in a trip. I put about 2 gallons of oil through the system in 1600 miles. What a mess! I checked the oil in the hydraulic system frequently. I had to replace the steering gear because the leaking seal was on the side that required disassembly and rebuilding. I had work done at FOT. Contact Rudy Leggett if you are near Houston and are willing to let someone other than FOT do the work. He knows folk who can do the work. You may be able to do it yourself if the bad seal is on the "easy" side.

The weather was cold and I figured the radiator fans might not have to run, so I tried driving with the belt removed from the hydraulic pump. I was able to steer it around the block, but it was not safe. It was very difficult to turn the steering wheel, even when the coach was moving. I put the belt back on and bought more oil.

FOT repair $500.00, takes 4 hours labor, remove steering column, radiator for generator, clean up mess, not a quick simple easy job and they stock the seal kit.
