Title: Progressive Insurance hike
Post by: lavocat on February 25, 2013, 01:27:34 pm
Just got my quote in from Progressive and I almost died!  $6547 is the premium for an agreed value policy of $425,000 with liability of $250,000/$500,000 liability and $1000 deductibles on comp and collision.  Progressive is the only company in Louisiana that will write an agreed value policy.  I can not get replacement cost policy because the coach is more than 5 yrs old.  I did get a quote from National Interstate on an actual cash value policy with the same type coverages and it is substantially lower at $2882.00 but if I have a total loss I then am at their mercy to fight over its value.  Anyone out there have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Gerard

I would call Miller Insurance  Miller Insurance Agency (http://www.millerrvinsurance.com/) (800) 622-6347.  Great folks to deal with.  We've been with them for 5 years.  They write policies all over the country, and have several insurance companies on tap.

We just changed to Overland from Progressive. Better rate with higher coverage.

Overland is an insurance agency in Arizona that only writes RV policies... in all states except Hawaii.  D&D, your policy is probably written by Nationwide/Allied...

Last month, I posted about how pleased we've been with this agency:

We've been with Overland agency ~7 years.  Initially, they wrote a great Progressive policy.  When we went full-time, they recommended changing to Allied and we saved >$500.

Our Allied policy (and Progressive before it) is agreed value, set at the purchase price we paid in 2009.  The premium (with no changes) dropped $250/yr in 2012, and $125/yr for the 2013 renewal - same agreed value, no changes.

A new Overland "perk" - with the renewal notice was an announcement the agency now offers highly discounted Coach-Net rates for the "Platinum Plus RV Towing and Roadside Assistance Program with RV Technical Support."  One year is $89 (2 yrs, $160... more savings up to 5 yrs).  We just paid $129 for the same program (through FMCA) in November.  Overland said to hang on to their flyer and send the check for Coach-Net to them in October, so no coverage lapse.  Sweet!    ^.^d

I would encourage a call to Overland for a quote (800-677-4027) - the agency is strictly devoted to writing RV policies (all states except Hawaii).  As Dean pointed out, they are great to work with.  Here's their website:

Patricia, yes it is written by N/A. By the way thanks for bringing the Coach.Net deal with Overland to our attention. We were up for renewal so we took advantage of it and saved some $. ^.^d

Belated Karma to you for that!

Overland won my business by working with me and getting my rate down even more.  It is not an agreed value but I refuse to pay over $6500 to get the agreed value from Progressive.  Too bad they are the only one I could get to write the agreed value.  My coverage will be with National Interstate and I am saving almost $4000.

Why don't you get a birth certificate for it and buy a 10 year $500K term life insurance policy. Is it not YOUR BABY???

I like that idea Dave.  My wife already refers to it as the other woman!
