Title: Location of Extra Wire bundle 99' U270
Post by: Don & Tys on February 27, 2013, 08:43:57 pm
I'm hoping that one of you folks who have utilized wires in the extra wire bundle can help me locate the aft end of the bundle. I found the front end of the extra wire bundle underneath the left side of the dash cover and in my case, there are actually 11 wires in that bundle all unterminated and labeled with EX1, EX2, etc. I did a search, actually several searches, on the forum and somebody said that their extra wire bundle terminated on the curb side of the engine underneath the dipsticks. That is not the case on our coach, so I'm wondering if any of you who have a 99' U270 or thereabouts can point me in the right direction as to the location of the rear end of this extra wire bundle. I want to use a couple of these wires for my camera project and it would be much easier to run some wires up into the camera area from the engine compartment than from the front of the coach. I have attached a picture of fore end of the bundle. On our coach, the bundle was coiled up behind the grounding strap that has all of the dash grounds.

On my '98 U270, those wires ended in a split loom tubing back by the trailer hitch.  I used some for my trailer brake controller - too handy.  I believe it was in the loom which came down the drivers side frame beside the engine and down by the hitch.  As best I remember there was a loom that ended at nothing that had them in it.  Let me know if you can't find it and I'll look at mine again and take a picture.

Thanks, That sounds like a good possibility since your coach is so close to ours in vintage. I did look there, but I'll take another look more closely this time.

Good call Steve! That may be the quickest answer I ever received and it was right on the money. That's exactly where I found EX1 through EX6... Still a mystery where the other five end up but this give me what I need. Thanks! Karma to you... ;D

The other bundle goes up to the overhead area where the TV set is located.

Thanks Barry! I do remember reading that but I haven't spotted them in the overhead yet, so I wasn't sure that would apply to our coach. If so, they certainly will come in handy at some point!

If you still have the factory TV, I believe you'll find the other wires behind and to the left of it when you pull it out.  If it ever becomes important let me know, I redid my TV so it is easy for me to look there and see now.  I'm not sure what you're doing with your camera, but if you don't have the alarm clock mounted in the bottom of your rear cabinet over your bed, there are some wires there you may be able to use.  I saw another coach that had alarm clock and generator turn on switch right above the pillows in the bottom of that cabinet, so I looked inside the cabinet, removed the "floor" of the cabinet and mine has the wires for it.  Once I got the price from FOT of the clock I decided to wait on adding it :)

This is very timely. I need to run wiring from the towed to the dash for the transmission pump on my 1993 U-300. I have not spotted the extra wire bundle under the dash or in the back. Does anyone know where to look on the U-300?

On my 93 U280 it was up and to the left on the front bulkhead. They were folded over to about a 12-15" length. Lay down on your back in front of the drivers seat.

Kent, On my GV the wire bundle is in the cabinet over the passenger seat and exits at the right rear of the engine.  It was coiled up and tucked into the recess behind the cabinet and was hard to see.

We have the same bundle of wires on ours but they all run down to the little flip up compartment on the wall right behind the dash top and the overhead compartment. No idea why they are there. Anyone?

The factory TV is long gone, I just haven't dug through the various wire bundles up there to find the unterminated ends of the extra wires. I did run an HDMI cable up from the dash area to the overhead area for the flip down monitor for the backup camera. I already got a fish tape down through into the engine compartment near where the wires come out from the camera location so I will go ahead and pull in the wires I need to meet up with the extra bundle, but if there's extra wires already in that cabinet... Great info, thanks!
