While I had the bed up to work on the new Electrical Surge Protective box, saw the added module required to control the Bypass Turbo, mounted on the intake manifood. Thought some gear heads would like to see how it mounts and the wiring harness has quick plug right there.
Dave M
What does it do and why bypass the turbo.
Simple, to get the HP & torque up to snuff, have to change to the bypass turbo which requires the controller for it, it communicates with the ECM to limit boost to the 500/1550 ratings.
Sure glad I had it done, but think I did some damage to my relationship with Cummins Atlantic ;D
Dave M
Really. Interesting.
I think you would really enjoy that, John...
Agree Dave, however I think John is still so happy with the resonator improvement, the additional HP & torque can wait until the resonator starts to feel dull. ;D
Dave M
Dave you are right.
Is it a bypass turbo ? Or a turbo bypass valve control ? Gam
The picture is of the wastegate control module, the ECM controls the Turbo by limiting the amount of boost. Sorry for the term bypass, that is normal wording in my world, bypass is what the wastegate does.
And for the serious gear heads, Cummins ISM series is rated up to 715 HP in marine service., fuel burn 29 + GPH . Dream on. ;D
