Title: Austin Area Members?
Post by: Chuck & Jeannie on March 16, 2013, 06:01:30 pm
Need assistance and/or info from kindly forum members in the Austin area, please.

My wife and I are still searching for the "right" coach.  We have pretty much decided that the 40' WTFE Unicoach floorplan is our favorite, and are concentrating on the '96 through '98 models since they seem to fall closest to our target price range ($60,000 or less).  I was scanning the "For Sale" websites today, and came across one that was new to me.  It is a '97 U320 40', and looks pretty interesting (see link):

1997 Foretravel Unicoach U320 | Austin, Texas | 512 Autos (http://www.512autos.com/1997-Foretravel-Unicoach-U320-Austin-Texas-78742/4334528)

I called today, but the owner of the dealership (also owner of the coach - it is his "personal" RV) is out of town...will be back Tuesday.  Just thought I would ask here if any forum members might have any knowledge of this unit, or know anything (good or bad) about the dealership or its owner, Brandon Steldt.  Our schedule is pretty much tied up this coming week, so we won't have an opportunity to go look for ourselves anytime soon.

If someone in or near Austin had the time and opportunity this next week to drop by the lot and take a quick look at this coach, I would really appreciate it.  I don't want a professional inspection or anything - just a casual assessment, by a knowledgeable Foretravel owner, of overall condition.  I only want to know if it is worth our time to make the drive down to Austin (which for us would be a "overnight trip").  There have been some fairly substantial mods made to the inside, which might or might not be a good thing, depending on quality of the work.

Thanks for reading this request, and thanks in advance for any info you might provide.  We know our Foretravel is out there somewhere...could this be it?

Not that I'm volunteering him, but Jerry Whiteaker immediately comes to mind as an Austin member who really knows his stuff.

Gorgeous remodeling done in that one - crossing my fingers for you!

Hmmm, I guess I posted my request in the wrong place.  Still learning about forum...thanx for your help, Michelle, and for the suggestion.

Hey Chuck,

I'm here in Austin.  I actually looked at this coach maybe 6 months ago when he had it listed for $49K.  He had his guys working on a few things, but at the time was trying to sell it pre-remodel.  I didn't do a serious inspection, but did note he'd done some "dealership" type work from cleaning up the engine and re-painting portions of it black to other knick knack things.  I thought he had sold it, but saw it repost on CL a few weeks ago.  I guess he decided to take it off the market and do a more extensive interior remodel than originally planned.  I'd be happy to run by and take another peek at it if you'd like.

Benjie,

I appreciate your response, and "Yes, thank you", if you have the time I'd like your opinion of the coach, and the dealer.  Since he only has 4 RV's in stock, and 2 of them are Foretravels, I am hoping he might perhaps specialize in this brand?  Or perhaps it is just a coincidence...  Truthfully, I would have preferred the coach in closer to stock condition - wish I'd seen the prior listing you mention @ $49k.  Was probably on the market just before my wife and I "settled" on Foretravel as our desired coach.  Anyway, the interior mods add very little to the value of the coach, in my opinion, although I know others would disagree.  I am just a simple soul, with simple tastes.  Unless this particular unit is a REALLY outstanding bargain in ALL respects, we probably would not bother to go see it.  However, your report (again, only if you have the time and it is not a hassle) might change my mind.

Thanks again for the offer.
