Another surprise this past weekend. When I removed the plastic solid panel that slides out -- on the ceiling above the range, I was looking at a grilled vent, but without any motor or fan (see picture) above it. I'm assuming there was a failure with the PO, and they just removed all the components.
It also would appear that the control knob is used set to turn the motor/fan on when a temp is exceeded?
Are these components still available to get it back operational (motor/fan/thermostat).

Well, after poking around in the archives -- it appears I'm out of luck with getting replacement parts. I really don't like the louvered grate up there -- it looks like the generic ones for home use right out of Home Depot.
Maybe someone has come-up with a repalcement motor and fan blade assy that can be adapted? . I did see the reference to a motor sourced from NAPA that worked. But I still need the fan itself.

Some have removed the Koolmatic and replaced with a Fantastic fan. Maybe someone stashed it in the garage and wants to get rid of it. The fan is a 4 blade fan. Call an RV salvage yard?

I plan to remove my working Kool-O-Matic fan in the next few days and replace it with a Maxair, low profile fan. I will reuse the thermostat control. I am at Slab City, near Niland, which is about 225 miles from you. If you come here and help me take it out, you can have the entire fan. It works very well, is quiet, and has a center nut holding the plastic inside cover (they crack). Also the inside metal grill has been painted to match the ceiling colour.
White, why are you replacing the working fan? Is it that it casts too large of a shadow on your solar panels?

The main reason is to let more light in, but I also do not like the bolted on inside plastic cover (plastic had cracked).
The new fan has a smaller diameter fan so will not move as much air as the Kool-O-Matic.

I removed mine for not working, and then had FT fill the hole, when they patched the roof. If you like, I'll ship motor and fan to you.

Thanks to everyone for the comments and to Steve and Wyatt for the parts offer. I do have a Fantastic Fan in the bathroom ceiling that would work just fine for pulling in cool night air. I'm going to have to think about the best way to go here. It would be nice to have a skylight in that area where the Kool-Matic opening is, but then -- cooking on the range means no fumes extraction if I went that route.
A lower profile unit would be attractive as I noticed the roof hood is rather large. And that ugly (to me) ceiling mount white louvered steel panel, and the cheesy plastic cover detract from what is otherwise a very handsome looking kitchen area.
Another thought. Shouldn't there be a metal matrix grease filter/screen there like a conventional stove hood?
