Is there a preferred hose that fits into the sewer hose storage tube in wet bay
The biggest thing to note with a FT is that the coach bayonet connector for the sewer hose, unless it's been cut off and replaced by the previous owner (which quite a few members have done), is a Thetford.
Not readily available in RV shops, which typically stock Valterra only, the OEM mating hose connector is Thetford 01665. Thetford and Valterra are not interchangeable.
Does the thetford hose fit into the storage tube located in the wet bay .
Thanks for advice and patience
Yes but you will have to cut down the ridge a bit.
Yes. It is an angled fitting.
Ok , appreciate the angled connector between hose and outlet .
Which hose fits into the storage tube which has small access door in wet bay . Thanks
Looks like this
Thetford 01665C 01665 Curved Hose Adapter : Amazon.com : Automotive (http://www.amazon.com/Thetford-01665C-01665-Curved-Adapter/dp/B0006H93CS)
Thetford 01665 Curved Hose Adapter Trailer Camper RV (http://www.americanrvcompany.com/Thetford-01665-Curved-Hose-Adapter-Trailer-Camper-RV_p_4478.html)
You might need to file down the "fin" that you see on the left side of the photo in the Amazon listing to get it to fit into the sewer holder.
You add the hose (with a hose clamp). The other end depends on the type of sewer connection at the campground. Some want a screw-in fitting, some a rubber donut.
What is physical difference between thetford and valtera
Thetford has a slightly larger diameter than Valtera. Unfortunately there is no standard. My advise is to cut off the Thetford and put on a Valtera. That way if you run into a sewer hose emergency you can go to Walmart for a replacement.
If you are looking for state of the art look at the polychute. http://www.polychute.com/PolychuteProductDetail.asp (http://www.polychute.com/PolychuteProductDetail.asp) They come as standard equipment on the new coaches. Lots'o people like em'.
Since we are talking sewer hoses you might want to read up on third valves. Third dump valve on an '02-'04 generation coach? (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=12738.msg93974)

Also did the 3rd valve with the smaller twist connector. Like the looks of the Polychute setup, but will need a demo on how to stuff it into the holder that Foretravel provided. The origional hose was more rigid and easy to insert into the tube that runs across in front of the drive wheels. ???
I have never used the storage chute for the sewer hose. I haven't checked, but I doubt the Polychute would fit into it. I have always stored sewer hoses in containers in the main bay.
I have Polychute and added third valve. I've been pleased with both additions. With other sewer hoses, I don't recall ever dumping the tanks without experienced a small leak or drip somewhere. With the Polychute and third valve, I've not experienced leaks. The combination allows back flushing the black water tank with water from the grey water tank. The sight glass on the Polychute allows observation of the effluent.
The bay door will not close with the Polychute attached. I don't find that to be a problem. I normally connect the sewer hose only long enough to dump the tanks.
My solution to storage of the sewer hose is to use a bucket with a leak proof screw on lid. I rinse the hose out, coil it into the bucket along with the donut or screw on fitting and put the lid on, even when I cannot properly rinse out the hose it still contains any stuff, odor and water in the bucket, an occasional clean out of the bucket and I am done.

I see I have no reason to give up the original hose nor storage that Foretravel provided as it works just dandy and takes no space else where. ;D
This is what I did and I could not be happier. Never have to hook or unhook hoses anymore. Also can be used to back flush with the valve in the end. When the hose end valve is closed there is no hose odor either.

@Mark Nice setup! I wish my wet bay was setup that way.

I've got one of those larger 45 degree connectors new in a plastic bag. I'm at Siesta Bay in Ft. Myers. If you want to pick it up you can have it. 207-837-7481
Not to hijack this thread but I've had a H*ll of a time getting mine set up. I like the clear piece so I can see the stuff going through. I have used a reducer to get to the Vantera size then a clear 45 deg. (Will try a 90 deg to get through bay floor opening) then a red screw on then OEM hose that fits in the compartment. How do I get a third valve on my setup? Pic attached. As always your input is greatly appreciated.
@Scott looks like you are almost there! From the pictures it looks like a 90˚ would do it. I like these from Camco RhinoFLEX Clear Swivel Fittings - 90° Fitting - Camco RV 39857 - Sewer Fittings (http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/rhinoflex-clear-swivel-fittings-90-fitting/59253). Once it's on you can still rotate it to get it where you need it.
As to the third valve the easiest way would be one of these. Twist-on Valve - Valterra T58 - Sewer Fittings & Adapters - Camping World (http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/twist-on-valve/27868) Not sure if you have enough room for the it and the 90˚ at the same time.

Thanks Ken - I'll pick up a 90 in the next few days. I think my main challenge is a third valve install. I see the value and I would really like to have it permanently installed but do not see how that can be accomplished with my setup. Thoughts?
@Scott I removed panels, unscrewed my black & gray valves, replace them and added a third. Grey and Black water valves (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=13023.msg73072#msg73072) I was able to find adaptors for the 3rd Valterra valve at Camping World but don't see them online.
Your situation is quite a bit different than mine. The pictures are rather dark so can't tell for sure but it looks like there are a several couplers already in the line. That would make it difficult cut and adapt. You might also need to remove panels to get to your valves.
Maybe someone who has made the change on a coach that's similar to yours can chime in.

Thanks Ken - That is what I'm hoping. :)
I just lift the drain hose instead of blocking it with the valve. Dump black first, leave the valve open (black) hold the drain hose up a couple feet and open the grey valve for a few seconds close the gray and lower the hose, and do it a couple more times.
Great Suggestion - lift the hose - DUH. :)
The third valve solves the surprise you get ifthe black valve does not get shut all the wat due to paper getting in there. Also the longer you leave it open the more water back flushes.

@Keith Classic! :D :D :D
Still looking for sewer hose that mates to original thetford connection and fits inside sewer hose compartment ? What was originally supplied with coach ?
I don't there is any difference in the size of the sewer hose only the end that goes in the hose is different size.
You can buy and adapter to change the fitting on the old Tetford sewer hoses. If you get the adapter you may have to cut a couple inches off your drain pipe but it sure gives you better sewer hose options. I put the adapter on my drain pipe and sure glad I did.
Jimmy,
Any hose up to 20' will fit, so long as the fin is trimmed on the Thetford angled fitting, but it can't have any fitting on the opposite end. You can use push on or screw on connections.
The hose is the same for both Thetford and Valtera connections. The only difference is size of the connector itself.
Actually, the triple-wrap "Ultimate" (I believe it's called) 20-ft hose is just a tad too long when compressed for the OEM sewer hose storage space. In our experience you need to trim off about 2-3 inches.
Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered a 20' triple wrap from CW.
Which hose do you guys use ( that fits in storage tube )
Thanks
I have 2 storage tubes as I put one in the centre Bay that is 7' long and keep a longer one in that and the shorter one for quick dumps etc in the origina, tube. If I need a really long one I just join them up.
John H
Which hose and connections
Jimmy, is that a question for me and what do you mean which hose and connections
John H
How do you prevent the hose from leaking into the bay
John , yes , can't seem to find hose that will store in storage tube , the end connections apear too big ,
If you look aty my photo the end is actually hanging out of tube. I put a big wooden skewer thru 2 small holes to hold that clear plastic end in place. It does not have to go in tube this way-simple.
John H
John, I dissconnect it from dump valve before storing it, that way it does not leak. I wash it out good with clear water then put it in tube. A bit of water will not hurt the bay, and the opposite end is blanked off.
John H
I have used the oem tube in all three of my FTs. I have the Thetford fitting on one end and nothing on the other. It fits and the door closes.
I wonder how long the original tube is on later models as it sounds like they may be longer than what was used on mine and others. The reason I put the extra one in was to be able to get a much longer hose in than in the other one. It was because of the fact that some of the sewer connections in Mexico were a few blocks away from my parking spot >:D >:D
Seroiusly no! but further away than normal
John H
If you look in the wheel well you can see it hugging the rear bulkhead. Measures 67" but has room to extend it all the way across.
yes I know were it is Barry I just did not think of extending it and made this new longer one. At least I have plenty of length now with the 2 of them
Thanks anyway
John H
Interesting about the OEM sewer hose, it at one time fit within the tube just dandy, now after 5 added years, it will not, it does go to the end of the tube, but still a foot sticking out. Just wondering if I am alone with this issue, and just maybe if I extended the tube an additional what ever will fit, would solve the issue.
Why I would need a demo to stuff a soft hose into the OEM tube.
Dave M
Maybe the hose has taken in too many calories from the stuff going thru it :)) ^.^d
John H
I have to twist the hose as I push it into the tube to get it all in.
I just twist as I put it in and it goes in without an issue. This hose is 7 years old. I do not leave it outside but pull it out to dump and put it away.
Which hose do you guys use
Jimmy,
There have been a lot of answers to your original question, yet it seems you haven't seen it answered to the degree you need. Perhaps if you rephrased the question?
Are you asking what brand and length people prefer?
If you are looking for someone to list a "preassembled" hose with ends that mates with the OEM Thetford bayonet fitting, there are none (to my knowledge). Your options are
1) Buy the Thetford end, some "into the campground sewer" fittings (some municipalities/campgrounds require an air-tight connection so a screw in and a rubber "donut" are 2 connection types to carry at minimum) and a "bare" sewer hose, along with hose clamps. Assemble the sewer hose.
2) Use a Thetford-to-Valterra adapter and then you can buy a preassembled, Valterra-compatible hose (or a hose and some Valterra couplings). Again, you'll want a variety of "into the campground sewer" fittings
3) Cut off the OEM Thetford bayonet and permanently install a Valterra connection. Again, now you would buy Valterra-compatible and fitting variety.
I don't know what, if any, brand sewer hose may have been provided when the coaches were new (prior to the newest coaches which appear to have the Drain Master Waste Master Cam Loc system installed).
Help us understand your question better since we haven't seemed to have answered it yet.
Michelle
Thanks Michele , you just did
She's pretty good for a girl. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Thanks Michelle, I was also un clear but I have it now!
I reconfigured my original Thetford connection and cut my original drain pipe fitting off and put on the Valteria fitting. I got so tired of using old fittings that constantly leaked because the fastening bands never fit properly. I like using the new sewer hoses with the permanent swivel fittings that are permanently attached and much easier to use. Keep it simple and clean.....if you can.
I use a bare 20' hose with the original Thetford fitting. I attach the hose to it with plastic ties so nothing impedes stowing the hose. I carry an extra 10' hose in the propane bay for difficult campsites. I use a red screw on union to mate the hoses. At the sewer end I use a blue elbow with multiple screw sizes at each side to fit all known sewer connections. They even tightly mate with various sizes of straight sewer pipe.
