Title: brass cabinet knob replacement - match found
Post by: Patricia on May 07, 2013, 05:46:49 pm
Several of our 10-yr-old polished brass cabinet knobs were looking decidedly worn and dull... 7 of them to be exact.

Googling, googling, and more googling... I found a match!  A little more price shopping - and I found those solid polished brass knobs for $6.30 each and free shipping (for orders >$30).  Just before posting, I checked another vendor, and they have them for the same price and $7.95 shipping (orders <$99); see links below.

Specs:  brand is Top Knobs; style is Somerset Round; model is M279; color is polished brass.  If you're checking for price, definitely make sure it is model #M279 - that's the solid knob (the hollow knob is M343), and be careful the description doesn't say "round, flat top."  Also, note that the diameter of the screw is slightly smaller on the new knob.

My original source:  Top Knobs Somerset Round Knob - ATG Stores (http://www.atgstores.com/knobs/top-knobs-somerset-round-knob_g176580.html?linkloc=searchProductItemsName&term=m279)

Currently available at same price:  Top Knobs | M279 | Polished Brass | Cabinet Hardware > Cabinet Knobs (http://www.myknobs.com/somersetm279.html)

Patricia,

Speaking of Cabinet knobs/handles -- I need to find four replacements as shown in the attached picture. They are on the lower doors under the sink. The center non-metallic part is broken/chipped on each one, as if someone was dragging something by and hit all of them.

Any clues. I've not tried the obvious, Encore or FT. When I saw your post I thought I would ask.

All the best out there,

Michael

Rockler woodworking supply may have what you need. I think the Mfr is Amerock. This is the link to Rockler Rockler (http://woodworking.rockler.com/nav/0)

Roland, thanks!  I did find what appears to be a match with the Amerock (Amerock Allison Value Hardware Knob, BP53023-3; $2.19).  Unfortunately, neither the Rockler nor the Amerock sites tell me if this model is hollow or solid.  Nor did a call to Rockler.  Here's the link:  http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=22885&site=ROCKLER (http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=22885&site=ROCKLER)

I'll give them a try next time we need knobs... shipping is $9 for a $50 order.

Interestingly, the model number provides availability on Amazon for $1.81 (sold by Woodworkers Hardware - $8.95 shipping):

Thanks again!  ^.^d

Hi Patricia,
I see a polished solid brass knob that seems the same. Diameter is 1 1/4". They are $2.12 each at C. H. Briggs Company. They are on the web at CHBriggs.com
Look under Shop for Products/Decorative Knobs/Briggs Collection/Knobs. Others to chose from. Called and asked for the construction. They are solid.

Hey, Bill... thanks!  I did check it out... I think you mean model 4706, which is 1.25" wide (the 4709 is 1.75") - here's the link:

Baldwin 4706 1.25" Classic Knob - Cabinet Knobs & Pulls - Baldwin Hardware (http://www.baldwinhardwaredirect.com/shop/pc/Baldwin-4706-1-25-Classic-Knob-6p2297.htm#.UYp2grXYfQo)

While it is solid brass... it is not a direct match for the knobs in our 2003 (our "stem" has another "decorative" ridge, while the Baldwin product is completely smooth).  Perhaps it is what is used on coaches in the late 90s?

Thanks for adding the sourced reference, as it may match others looking for replacement.

Thanks, Raymond...  like the Baldwin product, these aren't quite a match for our 2003... but close.  Here's what I found from your suggestion (although, oddly, I didn't see prices):

I've gotten to be pretty good at examining web images looking for these knobs...  who knew?!

Geomm:

I found those brass/ceramic handles at Home Depot in Victoria, Canada. They were white, while in my coach they were pink (dusty rose interior). I bought enough to replace all the bedroom ones with white and used the take offs from the bedroom to replace some kitchen ones.

Michael... it's hard to see closely from your photo what color the ceramic is (white, almond, pink) and whether it's burnished or antique brass... but here's a couple of starting points for your search:
