Title: Quieting MCD shades
Post by: Mark... on May 26, 2013, 11:38:36 am
Just had MCD Duo shades installed throughout and we are pleased.

However, the shade grab bar on certain ones bangs against the side valances while underway.  Thinking of adding 1/2 inch self adhesive felt strips around the grab bars where they contact the valances to quiet the noise, no matter what position the shades are in.  Anyone else come up with a different/better solution?

Using the fuzzy side of adhesive Velcro strips is what they recommend at the MCD factory.  I use white or black, depending on the shade ... and keep the bars from clacking against each other or the windows/valances.  Cheap & easy.

Bruce - I agree totally!  I was so enamored with the benefits that it did not occur to me that it is a poorly designed system when it comes to peace and quiet.  Seems like another product that missed out on some real world testing or a company that just doesn't care to fix its product shortcomings.

I used a strip of weather striping, double humped cut down the center {one hump} got it WalMart.  Works great.

Had mine installed at MCD and they provided the black and white fuzzy velcro strips for me to use.

I put the little silicone rubber "Bump-ons" that we put on the bottom of glass awards.  They just stick on.  Any decent trophy and awards company will be able to sell you some cheap.  They stay on better than Velcro.  If you can't find them PM me.

Well, this particular authorized service center did not...

I know this is a really, really easy fix but it just irks me.

I'd scratch off a little letter to the folks at MCD and just see what they say.  Maybe they are not aware of the issue OR have not communicated that to their dealers.
