Post by: dstrat1 on May 26, 2013, 04:00:40 pm
Well guys i have looked everywhere for the dometic penguin  630215.321  fan run capacitor partnumber....tried to take it off the coach, but the front and rear capacitors are different    so i do not know which is correct    any ideas

Are there only two roof air conditioner capacitors? I thought there were three of the large capacitors.

The parts breakdown only lists the two.

Barry,

I had a problem with my S&B AC a couple of years ago and the repairman determined that the motor's start capacitor had given up the ghost. He did not have one that size, so he wired two smaller ones in parallel to give the equivalent capacitance.

Maybe a similar circumstance caused you to have three caps instead of two?

Just sayin . . .

These caps are available at WW Granger Co, not by part number, but by description and value, Mfd & voltage .
Got one years ago for the Penguin

AC units may have a fan run capacitor, a compressor start capacitor and a motor run capacitor.  A lot of times the capacitors will be two in one style, combining two caps in one case.  They can be replaced the same way or with individual capacitors for each function but it may take a jumper or 2 to do it.  When you buy them they need to physically fit, have the same MFD rating, and the voltage rating needs to be at least as high as on the original parts.  Higher voltage rating is fine and may result in more durability. They are available in a variety of shapes and dimensions.

If the compressor has been laboring during cranking, or you run an ac and other items on a 20 amp service you might want to install a hard start kit.  That provides an extra kick for the compressor, making it easier and faster to starr while reducing start current.  Dometic sells a kit for this called an "easy start" but you can get a kick start kit at any ac supply place, grainger or possibly Amazon which is where I've bought numerous capacitors lately.  The kick start kit needs to be approximately matched to your compressor hp or amperage.

I found this place for parts and part numbers, Replacement Parts (http://aaarv.net/replacement_parts.htm) go to replacement parts section.

Thanks for all the help...it turns out that a bad run capacitor will cause unusual voltage readings.  Making me think I had a bad circuit board.... The 630215.321 unit we have is not listed in many of the sites I checked , but replacing the 20 10uf run capacitor fixed the problem.....
