Title: Water pressure tank
Post by: mark f on May 27, 2013, 09:51:06 pm
Thank You for the Memorial Day background. I had to replace my water-logged water tank. What air pressure should the tank be charged at? I have the same type of system in my house [much larger] and I think the air charge was supposed to be just below the pressure switch cut in pressure. I have no idea what RV pumps run for pressure. Thanks, Mark

I believe the tank pressure is to be set at 23 lbs. That is what I set mine at.

Mark,

The new tank should be pre-charged, but if not, I believe 30 psi is recommended.

A Shurflo accumulator is pre-charged to 20PSI.Gam

Note the cut-in pressure on the pump spec plate.  Set the accumulator pressure just below this.

Be sure you turn the pump off and empty the tank to check the pressure.

If you don't know the cut-in pressure of your pump, 30 psi is a safe level. I have replaced two tanks in my last two coaches and set the pressure at 30 psi. As mentioned be sure to turn off the pump and open the fill valve to relieve the pressure in the system before measuring the air pressure in the tank.

Thanks for the replies. I could not read the tag on the pump, so I will go with 30 psi. The tank was pre-charged at 55 psi. I felt that was too high. Mark

Yup, two PSI below pump cut in pressure is correct.
