Installed the VMSpc today. It will be great to have that data available. We moved over to Apple products long ago so today, dealing with files like dpinstx86.exe, messages like unable to locate driver and, of course, YOUR VIRUS DETECTION IS OUT OF DATE was like going back in time. Great to be back!
Anyhow, I also learned something which most of you likely already know. Our last coach, a 99, showed only the targeted gear on the Allison keypad. This one, a 95, shows both the current gear and the targeted gear. Turns out that Allison used to show both, went to displaying only targeted gear for a number of years and has now returned to showing both. So, in my case, the simple gauge meant to show both gears is disabled.
According to them the apple version is coming. Needs approval by apple. Two months?

That's great! We're all Mac here, and will be getting new computers about the time we hit the road full-time, so all of the bugs will be gone by the time we're ready to buy.
I bought a cheap netbook from costco for 400 dollars and all I run on it is Silverleaf. No virus stuff nothing. Shut off the wifi in fact.
You betcha. Kill all those unnecessary processes, be sure and get rid of Messenger also. Had it come alive on my cnc controller, one very expensive part ruined.
John, what tablet and which operating system did you buy. I see lots of tablets for 200 and less. I'm sure you looked around did it require a 400 dollar tablet?
Thanks, Phil
It might have been a bit less. IT has a non intel chip in it and it is an acer I think. It might have been between 300- and 400 but then add in tax and you get another 25 bucks on the price. I think I have the whole thing set up for less than 400 dollars. Also it was a while ago and prices were higher then.
I picked up an 11" Acer from Walmart for $250 a couple of days ago. I'm setting up VMSpc now. It ru ns Windows 8.

I cannot imagine running without my VMSpc any more. I use an old HP Omnibook 800CT...a Pentium 166 that came with win95. I got an update to win98 and it handles the VMSpc just great, with the original serial port. No wifi, nothing but vmspc on its 10 inch screen.
By the way, I set up both an idiot light and a real numeric gauge for the big four:
Engine temperature, Transmission Temperature, Oil Pressure, and voltage. So I can scan and see green "lights" and know all is ok, without focusing on the actual readout unless I want to.
I also established a trick to remind myself to press the economy button on the Allison. I put the cruise control setting readout to include a small idiot light. The light is RED when the cruise control is off, yellow when it is on but not engaged, and green when it is set and running. Thus whenever I turn the motor off, both items reset to off. So as soon as I restart and see that red light, I am reminded to hit both the economy button and the cruise control.
I like my VMSpc. I use an ASUS EB1033-B001E Desktop with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" tablet as a wireless display using the SplashTop Remote Display App. An iPad using AirDisplay works as well. I turned off the screen savers and all of the other annoying popup stuff. PC came with wireless kbd and mouse and an HDMI video connection to connect to your pic screen TV. PC and tablet were less than $500 from Amazon and Costco.
Sorry about the upside down display photo. I can't seem to get it to flip.
