Title: FlexSteel chairs
Post by: kb0zke on June 08, 2013, 10:26:01 pm
I've been working in the coach and tonight Jo Ann came out to fold clothes while we practiced living in it. I sat in the navigator's chair and discovered that the seat has a definite tilt to the left! What to do? I'm not sure that I really want to spend a ton of money right now for new chairs up front, and we're still so new to the coach that we really don't want to make major redecorating decisions just yet. Can I shim it somehow? The driver's seat seems okay.

David, the entire chair tilt or simply the cushion pressed down more on one side (I guess not from what you wrote) as the cushion can be rebuilt

Our chairs are Villa, but I would guess that the mount is the same. IIRC, ours is RV-620 tilt/slide mechanism. The chair is bolted to the top. The tilt/slide unit is bolt to a swivel mount. There are four bolts up top and four down bottom. One could shim with washers. Lie on the floor with a flashlight and look it over. You will figure it out.

I had the co-pilot's chair in our '93 GV (U225) out last fall and it would be easy to add washers on the side that is tilted; it's a 4-bolt square mount. I think I would swivel the chair around and see if the "tilt" follows or if something changes before adding shims.

I've seen lots of women (probably guys too) who kind of curl up in a seat with all their weight on one side.  That would do it.  Have dw practice curling up on the opposite side.

Check and see if the pedestal is cracked, if so you can take it out and re-weld it or have it re-welded.

We had the "tilting problem" in our '96. Left side on passenger and right side on driver's. Probably from plopping down for a short visit with someone. Got them both re-stuffed with denser foam for about $400.00. They took them out and put them back in.

The foam STUFFING is available from Flexsteel, I did both of mine.  Call them and give them the model number that you will find on the underside of the seat.

You can put washers in to reverse the tilt but you well need to get it stuffed again sooner or later.  They are pretty old.

Too bad I can't use the extra stuffing in me for the chairs. That would take care of two problems at once.
