Title: Check Engine Light Help Needed
Post by: Brad on June 09, 2013, 09:16:21 am
I'm heading toward the West Coast and 2 hours out of Albuquerque my check engine light came on. :(  All my vitals looked good on the VMSpc so just pulled over at the next truck stop.  The Vmspc got a PID 84 10 Road Speed hit.  Of course I had no Internet service and asked my brother to search the Forum for me.  He came back that the Speed Sensor was either bad or loose connection.  I taped over the buzzer and made it to Albuquerque.  I have a message into Dick S, as that is the last person that that I could find that posted on the PID code 84 10.  Does any one else have any other suggestions about what connections to check?????

On a side note I have developed a leak on my hot water drain valve.  Has anyone replaced theirs and have any suggestions for a easy fix.

Thanks,

Sensor on transmission?  Maybe try cleaning connections?  CUMMINS PID 84 10 ? (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=12860.msg68690#msg68690)

Michelle,
I just got finished checking the four two wire connections that I found on the transmission.  All looked good except for the front one by the drive-shaft.  It really was not dirty inside, but did have what looked to be a thin coating of transmission oil.  I cleaned it and applied a coating of Dielectric grease on all four connections.  I will check it on Monday and may try to find a Allison dealing in town.

Thanks

It happened to me also yesterday going up I-5. beep beep beep. I pulled over shut down and waited a few minutes and started up again same problem. Tried the blink codes and it gave me a code but wasn't ready to count. Did it again and it went away. Nothing for the next 50 miles.

Michelle: Did you save a copy of that pdf Silver Leaf Diagnostic Code Question (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=12398.msg64771#msg64771). It is no longer an active link.

I got that one too. I had my speed sensor changed out. It was dirty from a leaking main seal and that was the issue. I cleaned it up but decided when they changed the seal to change the sensor too.  You will need to get to an allison dealer if you have a leaking  main as they have the tool to pull it.  It was a couple hours service visit and I waited while they did it. I was getting it intermittent before and I cleaned it a couple times and it came back again so I just went to allison. This was in Feb of this year.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I did :(

Well I have cleaned all four sensors, although I feel the front one by the drive shaft is the one that caused the code as it picks up all the road grime.  I'm calling Allison tomorrow in Farmington, NM to see if they can have a look at the coach.  My cleaning may have fixed the issue and the 2 1/2 hour drive to Farmington will be a good test.

Barry,
I will let you know what happens.

It is not an expensive fix if that is any help.

Just an update on my check engine light.  I cleaned the shaft sensor with QD Electronic Cleaner CRC and then applied dielectric grease to the connection.  I drove from ABQ to Cortez, CO and did not get any check engine light or code on the VMSpc.  I assume the connection was  bad and not the sensor.  The road from Farmington to Cortez did not need a speed limit sign as I could not go over 45 mph it was so bad.

Barry,
I checked with Allison and the sensor is $80 and change if needed.  I plan to take my ohm meter to check the resistance for a reference point.

To the West Coast we go,
