I am putting back together the water heater/water pump bay and have a question about how the heater hose runs to the motor aid. After I took the water heater out, I just put a piece of copper tubing to create a loop in the heater hose. My question is, does it matter which of the nipples on the water heater goes on which side of the valve? I am replacing the old style valve with a ball valve and I think all that I need to do is just run one of the two hoses from the cooling system to one side of the valve, and then add a short piece of hose up to the tank. My guess it is that it doesn't matter which way the coolant is flowing through the system... But I could be wrong, it has happened before. ::)
Edit: it just occurred to me that I could add a second valve so that I have a valve between each hose that runs up to the water heater and thereby make it easier to install and remove the water heater without the coolant mess... Any thoughts?

It should not make any difference as the coolant only flows through the metal pipe that is welded to the tank of the water heater
I think using two valves is an excellent idea. I don't know on your motorhome whether the water heater is in series or in parallel with the dash heater coils, but if it is in series then I would recommend a third valve, as well. That way the heated coolant could be directed either through the water heater or past the water heater.
That was my thinking too... Also, there is no arrow indicating flow in the coolant loop on the water heater. I cannot imagine there would be any check valves in that loop.

I'm pretty sure that the water heater is in parallel with the dash heater hear coil because there used to be a label that said something to the effect "close valve out to increase dash heat".
